Pondering whether to sell my 2 470gtx's and get a single card from a newer generation. Main reasons really are heat generated, power usage and.....well....they are a couple of gens old now. I have a i7 920 @ stock and 6gb ram @ 1600mhz. I game at 1680x1050. Looking at spending £250ish depending on what I would get for the 470s. So...is it worth the hassle, is It a viable upgrade looking at price/performance gain?

Stick with your 470s for this generation.

There is nothing really worth upgrading to.
A single GTX 670 or GTX 660 Ti or a HD 7950 will give similar performance to your current SLi rig but it is a sideways 'upgrade'

I know because I made the same mistake.

Why not look at getting a bigger screen, prices have dropped a fair bit.

Whilst some say "Stick with your 470s", if you are wanting to change, a 7950 will offer = performance as your current SLI set up and will have the benefit of losing any problems that come with SLI.

That bench only shows the 7950 Vs 470 (single card) and with the latest AMD drivers, they have seen a nice increase across the board in frames per second. I could imagine a 7950 with a mediocre OC surpassing a 470SLI set up now.

I loved my C64!!

you know my thoughs on the HD 7950, there is no need for me to repeat it again here.

Your thoughts are pretty pointless when you show how biased you are to Nvidia and don't take everything into account. I am an Nvidia fanboy but the current pricing of Nvidia cards makes it very hard for me to recommend them.

Utter garbage.

Why can't you recommend a GTX 670 or a GTX 660 Ti?

OP is gaming at 1680 x 1050 the nVidia cards will blitz this resolution and 1080p for that matter.

The GTX 660 Ti at just under £230 or the GTX 670 at just over £260 isn't bad value.

Don't give me the but ATi......

ATi cards come with more problems than solutions IMO.

You or no one on here will change my mind, so don't bother trying.

As you can see, the 670 which gets beaten by a 7950 is a lot more money than the 7950...Use common sense please.

Ohhh and @ Tonester...AMD will never be in my system ;)

Its about 50/50 depending on the game at this resolution.

Keep that opinion to yourself or make it clear you are biased in spec me threads.

I agree, a new monitor would be the best investment right now for the OP.

The two are pretty much neck and neck, the 7870 is the obvious choice as it's £40 cheaper than its closest nvidia counterpart, similar story with the 7950 and 670.
