While this thought is bouncing around my head, I'm set on blowing all my money & getting a Celica GT4 (ST205) in a couple of months for my final year at uni.

I'm ok when working on engines etc but anything more heavy such as suspension components, wheel bearings etc I wouldnt touch...
I've never had experience of older (1995ish), jap import high performance cars so where do these type of cars get serviced? I've got a corsa at the mo and just take it to the cheapest local garage to get anything done - I gather this isn't going to be the case with the Celica.

Cheers,

Running a high performance car during your final year at University is a stupid, foolish and slightly wreckless idea. It's totally pointless, and you really don't need a car like that as a student.

Go for it :D Bound to be some import specialists near you.

So is that the done thing? Take it to an "import specialist" - i guess these are the kind of guys that import cars, sell them but also have a service shop on site. I've been to a few in birmingham for some random test drives which do exactly that anyway.

As long as you know a good garage there should be no need for a jap specialist to service or repair that car, most things will all be pretty much the same to work on i.e discs/pads, wheel bearings, driveshafts etc. make sure you supply the parts you want fitting though if your not happy with normal/standard motor factor parts. The only time I would look at a specialist is if the transmission/engine needed repairing/rebuilding or for tuning.

When are you getting your BMW? :p

Worse comes to worst take it to a Toyota garage, most will service imports. Infact didn't Toyota uk send a memo round dealers years ago asking them to service imports? Or something like that anyway :)
