Organising a wkend away with the gf & wondered if anyone had any recommendations for decent affordable B&B accommodation in Bath - preferably within walknig distance of the city centre/roman baths etc?

I live in bath, great place :) can't be too helpful but there are certainly no shortages, 3-4 b&b on each road it seems. There's always the holiday inn or travel lodge which are within 3 mins walk of the centre if u get stuck!

Me too!! Somewhere along the Upper Bristol Road (A4) is probably your best bet, there's maybe 6-7 in a row when you get a bit closer to town (BA1 2NA/B postcode). Not sure on prices, but they are about a 5-10 min walk from the centre (depending how fast you walk) and just round the corner from the Royal Crescent, Circus and Royal Victoria Park (Sainsburys pretty much just across the road too =P)

I've been looking at something similar and the prices in Bath seem quite ridiculous.

Perhaps better off staying in Bristol, can get 3-4 star accomodation for much less and Bath itself is something like 3-4 quid return on the train.

Keynsham is where my mum stays but you need to drive/bus it.

Watch for parking as many don't have parking involved, or not enough for the full hotel (eg: travelodge in the centre).

But yeah, it's generally expensive in bath.. pretty annoying.

If you choose the Bristol ones, watch for trains as the last one back is I think a bit after 11.

I would recommend the B&B in Box, called Lorne House, where I often stay for work during the week. It's about 7 miles out of Bath on the A4, so not ideal if you can't budge on the walking distance thing.

Not sure about right in the centre of Bath itself, but I hear the Hilton is nasty so steer clear of that.

There's Bailbrook House, but that's a 25 min walk away and - despite it looking amazing on the website - it is nice, but you don't stay in the grandiose building they advertise. Which is a bit of a con, I think.

This is true, but mainly because it's such a touristy place. Bristol isn't a bad idea to be honest, better shops, better nightlife... just generally better... get the bus or train into Bath, see the baths, go back to Bristol, and go to the Apple (assuming you like cider ;))

About to book a weekend there so if you know better do point out!

Sorry, actually had to do some work this morning! :(

Were you looking for somewhere you can walk to everything from (ie in town) or bringing the car and wouldn't mind being 5/10 minutes out of town in a nice sleepy village?

TBH most of the places around here are decent as long as you don't stay in some backstreet barginz place.

Call me posh, or just spoilt to have lived my whole life in such a beautiful city, but Bristol isn't a patch on Bath!

Heh, it seems Nicholas Cage is turning on Baths xmas lights on the 26th of November.

I think I'll be paying a visit, but like Fox said, I'll probably travel in from Bristol - GF lives in Bristol anyway.

Why stay in Bristol or Keynsham? There's literally loads of B&B's, independant hotels, and chain hotels in Bath.

Seems like Bath's fully booked that weekend due to the xmas market from the enquiries I've been making with B&Bs. Looks like the Bristol option may be the preferred option...

Do not, for the love of god, use the Holiday Inn at Bath. The place is a complete dive

I'd also put in that there is plenty more to do in Bristol, and as nice as the town is in Bath it's really not particularly interesting to spend a great deal of time in.. that may just be because I've lost the initial impression though from living here day to day.
