Where will the next big multi billion $ internet phenomenon emerge from?

I hear adverts on the radio all the time for a service like that where they clean up your online footprint or something. I doubt many people use it though, most people don't care or don't understand.

Exactly, I think a lot of people don't have anything to hide. One of Facebook's main goals is to promote openness. And it's definitely progressing rapidly.

Everyone needs to take a leaf out of 6 star OP's book........ :D

Everyone wants to talk to each other (Facebook),

Everyone wants to search the internet (Google),

Everyone wants to watch and share videos (Youtube),

Everyone wants to buy at cheaper prices

These are all 'the bleedin' obvious' type of ideas,

If they are all so obvious then why did it take so long for them to appear or make money? You have to also remember that a lot of Internet companies money is purely from perceived value. YouTube cost Google a massive chunk of cash and costs Google a massive chunk of cash to run.

The next "big" Internet idea won't be obvious to us now but rather will come from the left field and it certainly won't be anything as crappy as 3D.

What about internet addiction clinics like they have in korea? There is money in getting people OFF the internet.

I remember in the mid 90s trying to explain to my friends what IRC/compuserve/AOL was was and them saying it was totally sad and boring and would never catch on. Now they are all addicted to facebook and texting.

Does anyone remember those AOL mass mail warez rooms? Having your inbox box full of Syndicate Wars in 150 zip files lol.

Whoever can invent a cheap and easy to install Boxing Glove on a spring that shoots out of another users monitor at the press of a remotely controlled button to smack them square in the face with an added comedy 'Kapow!', 'Biff!'. 'Boff!', Baff!', 'Boing!' etc. sound effects for being wrong or irritating on the Internet will be a very rich person indeed.

Spotify with video support, for releases new and old, in multiple formats, drm free.

The internet is screaming out for it, has to be an ever expanding library, and not like iPlayer etc where they have some series but not others

Indeed, what you've described is essentially BitTorrent but it seems the media moguls haven't understood the formula...

I think Facebook will die a death(probably a slow death).

Its functionality could easily be replaced by things within mobile phones(the parts people are interested in anyway).

Be interesting to see what games can do with hardware acceleration in the browser. Could a facebook game challenge world of warcraft?

Im not sure about on the net but i reckon the next big thing will be some sort of augmented reality, basically bringing the internet to the everyday world around us, the potential huge, imagine real time information and interactivity with virtual stuff overlaid on top of the real world, no need for as much physical stuff like displays, its 3d by default, you can do real world gaming with mates like paint ball etc, communication with virtual friends and family from around the world projected in your own room and so on.

Program that picks up mental amounts of information available on the internet to predict stock price movements and buys/sells immediately, quicker than the capabilities of humans. So it uses AI to understand the ramifications of a news story (out of thousands it 'reads' per hour) stating that some chief executive is leaving Tescos ... and buys (or sells) within a tenth of a second of the story breaking .. then the humans come along and do their thing - the stock moves accordingly, and the PC 'cleans up' ...

That could make someone a few billion.
