Which 2.1 speakers? (know nothing!)

I am looking for some speakers with the following:

Maximum 2 speakers + maybe a sub (GF doesn't want wires everywhere)
Small physical size (limited space)
Fairly budget priced (I'm no audiophile and surely anything is better than built in TV speakers?)
Easily available (in stock at many popular stores)

To be honest I don't really know anything about speakers at all. Can anyone recommend something? The speakers will be used for watching TV, DVDs, music and gaming. They will need to be connected to my V+ box and xbox 360 at the same time (do I need additional hardware for this?)

Many Thanks!

Some people are quick to give the standard offer when people ask for pc speakers, but the AE's would be inappropriate due to having only a single input surely?

The Logitech Z-2300's Here have an mp3 player input as well as the PC input, so can accept two connections, but I'll assume the Logitech set produces booming bass that the kids love, whereas the AE's produce balanced bass that matches the sats.
The smaller Logitech set, the Z-4's Here also have a secondary input for mp3 players, but again probably sounds awful compared to the AE's.

I'd be quick to recommend the AE's for 2.1 also, but since you request the ability to hook up two devices, it gets awkward, as you'll need to get an input switcher or something?

The AE's have two inputs. Phono sockets at the back and a MP3 input at the front that most people mistake for a headphone socket.

I think the front socket cuts out the back phono input so one device will have to be plugged in as and when needed or you could get a phono switch which plugs at the back and just switch it to the source you want.

Oh, I'm mistaken then! Thought it was a headphone socket....lol

It's a shame that you have to unplug the front connector to use the rear, but I imagine it's the same with the Logitech ones. Can't win with 2.1 it seems!

Would the Altec Lansing FX4021 be any good as these include a wireless remote? Dont want to have to get up every time I want to change the volume when watching TV/DVD etc

Also could anyone tell me if "PC speakers" are OK given that these will be connected to 360/V+ box? What is the difference between PC speakers and normal (non-PC) ones?

Another Aego user here.

Without doubt the best spent money spent on any of my PC's. The sound and build quality are fantastic and are quite loud for thier size. You cant go wrong with these. :)
