I want to get a new tv for my room and am thinking of a Samsung Series 5 550 40" LE40B550 which I have seen for around £550. What do people think of this TV and are there any others I should be thinking of for around the same price?

I've tried to have a look around to see if this tv supports DivX movies using the USB port and I seem to have come across conflicting results. Does anyone know for sure if it can or not?

Those models are a bit more expensive, are they that much better than the samsung?

To be honest mate, its best having a look at them as every one has a different opinion. Take a DVD/Bluray etc with you to test them. IMO the Bravia picture engine is a bit better then that of the Samsung. However, thats just my personal taste.

Whats the main use going to be for? normal tv?

I'm also looking for a TV 40-42 inch, with 1080p and 100Hz. cheapest one i've come across is a LG 42LH4000, high street shops website. Anyone know if these are any good?

The samsung you listed is only 50 Hz, and the panasonic mentioned above is only 720p.

I've only just started looking and probably not going to purchase for a month or so, Will keep an eye on this thread for any models mentioned.

Ok well the only Samsung I would recommend for gaming is the 6 series and above.

Although they do suffer with input lag issue (The Sony LCD models with the same S-UVA screen don't).

The only real difference i can see between the 5 and 6 series is that the 6 series runs at 100hz, and from what i've read, most people dont actually notice the difference... And if you dont notice the '50hz flicker' then there's no point paying the extra for 100hz.

I have a A656 and there is massive difference between it and the 5 Series. For one it has a different panel, 6ms update versus 8ms.

The processing difference is not the only difference.

Both cannot match the Pioneer 5090 in my lounge for motion, but the A656 does produce a very nice picture for Xbox gaming.

Both have motion fixing of sortsm the 6 better.

Its a progressive panel, there no such thing as 50hz flicker. 5 series and sky HD, you cant read the billboards when it pans and the texture of the green grass just goes green.

I dont have sky HD and will only be using this for xbox. Cost is an issue and I dont want to spend an extra for something I wont really use. Will a series 5 work ok for HD gaming?

Does anyone have an LG tv? i've seen a 42" LG 42LG5020 for the same price as the samsung and want to know if I should get that instead.
