(Or alternatives)

Cheers
Jonny

7600gt wipes the floor with the x850

Wipes the floor is a bit strong. I have a 7600 GT and a X850XT running at 620/620 and guess which one I am using while I decided on my next graphics card.

Will give you a clue it isn't the 7600 GT ;)

Running Prey Max Detail 1600x1200

BF2 1920x1200
DS2 1920x1200
Dark Star one 1920x1200

Basically had to loose the AA but suprised me how fast this card still is. After using a X1900XT-X I expected this card to grind, it didn't!

It depends on if the X850 can unlock to 16 pipes and how well it clocks. Just because it scores rubbish in 3D mark 06 and can't do SM3 does not mean its a rubbish card. See my previous post. You will probably find if you can unlock the X850 it might be CPU limited, LOL

I am sure x850 can not do HDR as it's a faster version of x800 SM2.0b

It can, definitely. I could do HDR on my X800Pro

It is a common misconception that you need SM3 to do HDR - this is not the case at all.

Most implementations of HDR use SM3, hence the misconception, but some don't. HL2: Lost Coast is a prime example of HDR without SM3

The x8 series can do HDR, it is not part of SM3.0 as said above, that is a fact. ;)

Oh looky here x850 running with HDR, how very odd seen as they can't do it. :D

best thing to do is for the OP not even bother to ask such a question since all the fanboys will be over this post. best to just go read up reviews on both the cards and make up your mind.

from the info posted by others in this thread the x850pro seems to be faster than a 7900gtx.

Fanboy, LOL

Time to get a clue m8 :)

Yup have to agree with the fanboys comment, why everyone is saying to go for the 7600 GT is beyond me, we all know is the better card out of the 2x, but still. :(

well out of the box performance will favour the 7600GT.

The X850pro can be seen more like a 6800GT so roughly 15-20% slower than a 7600GT however there will be times where the pro would close this gap.
