A survey of cellphone users in Australia, conducted by Panorama and released by Nielsen Media Research, has proved what pretty much everyone already knew: people are likely to base broad, stereotypical assumptions about you on your cellphone, just like they do with everything else you use and wear. We're guessing this breaks down a bit differently in Aussieland, but here's how mobile users tend to associate down under:

Nokia: Family-minded, middle aged managers, balance seekers, health conscious
Motorola: Fashion conscious, under 24, fun seekers, individualistic
Sony Ericsson: Ambitious young men, professionals, success driven, individualistic
LG: Favorite of mums, stay-at-home parents, success driven, harmony seekers
Samsung: Young women, career focused, success driven, fun seekers

I'm a Sony Ericsson user at the moment but only because they had the best phones at the times I was upgrading (W800i and K800i), my next phone will probably be a Nokia N95 or similar, possibly some other type of PDA style phone - by the time I upgrade I won't have hit middle-age so not particularly relevant.

I suppose I partly fit into the categories for both Sony Ericsson and Nokia (as well as a few of the others) but then with anything this general the chances are most people will associate themselves to a certain extent with the qualities there especially as most are fairly positive.

I'm obviously confused having got a:

Samsung D900
Nokia 6233
MDA Vario II
Sony K800i
Motorola RAZR V6 maxx

But the wife had a LG Chocolate until recently but has just changed to a Nokia 7373 pink thing.

Nokia needs to bring out some decent cooler phones like they used to - N95 is a start but they need some 'cooler' k750i style phones.

If im reading it right it doesn't so only that that person has that phone, it says that when you see a nokia you think of a middle aged person, so even if you we just 23/24 and if you were holding a nokia i'd think of you as some middle aged man etc
