Which camcorder format?

After a new camcorder.

Just wondering what is the best to go for and in what order.

Mini DV
HDD
DVD
SD

Got around £200 to spend and also wondering what brands are the best to go for in general?

JVC and Sony?

Although i'm refereing to HD cams, the same applies to SD cams.

Sony generally come out ontop of JVC due to superior tech and Carl Ziess (sp?) lenses (world famous lense manufacturer do loads of medical optics etc = better image than the JVC lense)

Depends on what your needs are really, as none of the cameras have everything you could possibly want. The Sony's for example have the best build quality, but I found when I was looking back in December that they were lacking in options for recording in progressive.

I'd look at Canon or Panasonic personally. I bought a Canon HF11 which has been fantastic, they have a couple more new cameras coming very soon which look to improve it further.

I've found so far that using either card/or flash memory on the camera that the battery will run out before the memory does.
