Which card to keep 3070FE or RX6800

Not sure which one to keep?

bought a used 3070 FE (£600) just before getting a new 6800 Powercolour order in on here.

could probably get my money back on the 3070.

gaming at 1440p ultra wide 144hz monitor. Mix of game styles.

advice appreciated...

£600 for a used 3070 FE is ridiculous. If you can get your money back, you should do so. They're not even that hard to get compared to the 3080 one.

Doesn't matter too much. They're roughly in the same ballpark. The 6800 is faster if you're not doing any raytracing, but both are pretty solid 1440p cards, with the 3070 you're getting DLSS, RTX Voice and all that - if you care about those a lot, stick with NVidia, otherwise just flip a coin.

Ouch £600 for a 3070 FE

6800 benches better but you won't see much difference in real world

3070 is better at ray tracing if you play a lot of games with RTX enabled

3070 will only just about manage RTX if the title uses DLSS well. Me personally would go with 6800, overclock it or possibly future flash it to XT. If your on new ryzen build would be cementing that sentiment.

I'd probably be keeping the 6800. Both are great cards and 4K capable to some extent, but the 6800 punches that bit higher.

5600X cpu on order, so thinking I’m swaying towards keeping the RX6800.

what is the ‘future flash it to XT’ about?

Another option I may have is a MSI GeForce RTX 3080 10 GB VENTUS 3X OC for £750.

What about that option?

He already has 2 cards from this gen and is playing with the idea of selling them both to buy a third? Stretching that idea a little bit. If you need the extra performance sure get a 3080 but that's up to you

I have got a Ventus, its good but voltages are locked which is a bit annoying.

It's his money. Personally, I wouldn't spend mine that way, but who are we to judge?

3080 > 6800 > 3070

He means flash the bios on the card to the 6800XT version which isn't power limited to same degree as the 6800 which means you get closer to a 6800XT performance for 6800 money... at the probable cost of more noise and heat (6800 cards are 2 slots wide and XT's are 2.5 due to larger heatsink etc)

3070 all day long with DLSS. 6800 gets pulverised. I will take a pepsi challenge with any 6800 or 6800xt with DLSS

Does anyone think the 8GB VRAM on the 3060 may be a limiting factor over the next year or 2?

I like the fact the RX6800 has 16GB, maybe helps future proof a bit?

Well, people are already worried about the 3080's 10GB, so what does that tell you?

to be fair it's one of those things people ask without really considering everything else. 10GB will be just fine for the 2 year cycle in all likelihood. Games are designed with current systems in mind so how beneficial do you think it is (apart from the few outliers that never run perfectly) for them to get ram bound on one of the most powerful gpu's? The whole lack of ram thing pops up pretty much every gen because one sides number is always bigger (sure the 970 ram sucked though). The gpu usually runs out of steam waaaay before ram becomes the issue

Some games might run close to the limit, if playing at 4K. But yes, generally speaking it's usually less of an issue than people believe.

Still, if you're paying these prices, less is definitely not more!
