Fanless if possible, to connect to a 4K TV.

I hoped that this old spare 560Ti would do the trick, but I don't think they can do 4K.

I think last time this came up we decided the GT 1030 was the one to go for, as the 710 and 730 cards wouldn't cut it. Maybe an rx550 if you want to go AMD.

Depending on your processor, onboard graphics might be enough too. What do you have in the machine?

Geforce GT 710 supports 4k 30Hz through its HDMI port (1.4a). This should be sufficient for media center usage as movies run at 24fps.

Otherwise Geforce GT 1030 supports 4k 60Hz through its HDMI port (2.0b). This should really be considered if your media center usage involves a PC-esque desktop.

Both have fanless models available. GT 710 is roughly half the price of GT 1030.

Go for the Geforce GT 1030, I had to do the same last year. At least you know it has the extra bells and whistles for playing 4K videos if needed.

This. MSI do a low profile, passive model which has HDMI and DisplayPort outputs.

Depends on the generation. I had an A10-6800k APU, it couldn't do 4K. Dropped an Gigabyte GT 1030 Silent Low Profile GPU in there, problem solved :)
