which dvd player

my trusty yamada 6600 dvd/divx player has finally died and won't recognise discs anymore

i am looking for something to replace it so the kids can watch their dvds

constraints
samsung 32" lcd with only 1 hdmi port (and 720p max)
hdmi port filled by popcornhour 110 player

i know i could rip stuff and leave it on the pch, but i don't like the kids playing with it!!

should i get an upscaling dvd player?
should i get a bogstandard dvd player?
should i get a bluray playeryet?
whats the best way of expanding my number of hdmi ports?

tv got component in? just get a 30 pound divx player from asda and plug it in with scart?
