which email account independant of isp

i am changing my isp, currently with freedom2surf and it seems i am losing my email account.

i want to have an independant email address rather than rely on my isp email address then if i ever change again i dont have to change email again

so what and where is recommended for a free email account, i could use hotmail or yahoo but i think these are more prone to spam and i think some sites dont allow you to use those kind of addresses.

i suppose i have to change my email details on the many many websites i have my email registered with, oh blast.

thanks guys looks like the favourite is gmail, so i have signed up for gmail, many thanks for the recommendation
