hi guys. ive just bought the logitech z5500 speakers and im going to be running it from a laptop. having trouble finding an external sound card which will accept all the plugs and whatever.

anyone know of any external sound cards that i can use and will work well?

oh btw - ive got a compaq laptop if thats any help to you guys and it doesnt have pcmcia.

cheers.

You might get a response posting a price, if you want something which will do the job then I'm sure creative have a product out there which will work. If you want top quality sound then you need to look at m-audio or another professional brand.

That said I don't know of any pro external cards which support 5.1 speakers, mostly only stereo. Consumer cards are more likely to have 5.1 support.

Do you have a firewall port, you'll do better with firewire than USB when it comes to connecting audio interfaces...

i dont care about price (up to a certain extent). i just want an external soundcard that will accept all the connections of an internal soundcard. its either that or build a pc just so i can listen to music, which im certainly not going to do.

OK, do you want quality (for listening to music) or surround sound for movies and games.

If it's quality (and you mentioned it's for music) then then an m-audio fasttrack will give you a high quality sound card with a USB connection. It's stereo only, so no surround sound.

If you're looking for surround sound then even THIS might do the job for you. I don't know much about this part of the market so somebody else might be better able to help you...

ah thanks mate. i think ive found a soundblast live 24-bit thingy with all the connections on egay for a tenner or so.

Good choice of Sound System, I've had my Z-5500's since they came out back in January 2006.
