I need a cooler for an i7 3930k / Gigabyte X79-UP4 motherboard combo but the problem is that most of the coolers will prevent me maxing out the RAM on the board due to the height heatspreaders. Ive found these which would work with any cooler:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-134-GL

But wanted to up the ram to 64Gb of 2133 MHz with low timings (future proofing) but all the ram i find have tall heatspreaders!

Is there no way i can get a cheap cooler that would allow any ram to fit underneath?

If you don't have the cooler yet just get a sealed water one like the Corsair H100 or the Antec Kuhler 920, closed loop is better than high end air for SB-E hex core (though custom water beats both).

Is custom water more expensive to set up.
where can i see one of these to get an idea?

No offence but if you have to ask what custom water is, then perhaps you aren't ready to build a custom water loop just yet :) You don't want to make mistakes or have any incidents with hundreds of pounds of tech if you haven't researched it yourself first :)

H100 or Kuhler type closed loop coolers would be better for you.

thanks for the advice, and no offense taken, but the fact is you dont know what i can and cant do...and for someone who cant spell properly...well...

Spellen' as nutten to do wit it.

subbytna is correct.

We do know you can't do it. You don't know what it looks like, what the components are, or how to assemble it. That means you can not do it! At least not until you research and learn more. ;)

Don't be so rude, he was actually asking what it was and where he could find out more information on it when he got effectively told it wasn't for him and he wouldn't be able to do it.

@OP: Basically you have a cooling block on the CPU for the water to go through, a pump to pump the water round, a radiator with a fan on it to dissipate the heat, a reservoir to store some water for an overhead, and of course the coolant in the system plus tubes and fittings to connect it all (that's a pretty basic water loop anyway). Its really easy to do these days what with compression fittings and high quality of components (compared to the old days of barb fittings and experimental stuff)

What did I say that was rude? To the point yes, but not rude. I simply stated the facts.

But the quoted red text was a rude reply to subbytna's post. ;)

This post wasn't anything to get bent out of shape over. It was a fair comment imo.
He didn't get told he couldn't do it, he got told that perhaps he isn't ready to.

Apart from 'offence' what's the problem with the spelling?
Picking up on that and getting arsey about it is kinda rude.

Wanting 64gb Ram for 'future proofing' plus owning a high end 3930k rig and not knowing what custom water cooling is does make me (at least) slightly question what the op can and can't do.

No offense.

EDIT: Posted before seeing doyll's reply.

FYI water cooling kits are straight forward to install and get working now, OCuk stock a few and it takes a lot of the guess work out of finding the right components, so long as your case accepts a radiator and fans. If in doubt take some photos and post to the watercooling forum. Plenty of help to be had there.

TBH all in 1 watercoolers are a waste of money, better off buying a kit for the price it costs to put decent fans on them. Imo get a D-14 or Silver Arrow SB-E and some reasonable ram.

What can actually utilize 64Gb of ram? I'm just curious. I would hate to have 40+Gb or ram I've paid for sit there doing absolutely nothing. The Geil ram will work with any heatsink, it's normal low profile ram, don't need heat sinks on ram.
