Which is best/most future proof

Yea, it's the same price structure as SB, since it is a direct replacement.

For example the wholesale launch price of the i5 2500K was $216 and the launch price of the i5 3570K (the comparable IB CPU) is expected to be $225. You should most likely put that difference of $9 down to inflation.

kool, well hopefully by release I should have £200-£275 to get a chip :) hopefully I can get an upgrade on the 2500k for that

That will be plenty for the i5 3570K, my guess is that chip will arrive in the UK priced at £185.

There will be more expensive Ivy Bridge CPUs to buy (like the i7 3770K), however like with SB these are also just quad cores - but with a touch more cache and hyperthreading enabled. So if you are mainly gaming then you may as well just save your money and go with the i5 3570K.

yeh, mainly games with the occasional dvd/blu ray rip or video encoding from camcorder.

these go on sale tomorrow, and I can get one with my credit, so wondering, which of these would be best all round motherboard, and is skt 1155 going to be around for a while, or will the IB release in the next couple of weeks be the last of this socket?

I am confused. Z77 boards go on sale tomorrow? I thought it was the first week of april

Hope it all works out for you, thought I'd chip in and say I'm surprised by those prices. I had expected Ivy Bridge boards to carry a bigger premium. Keep us updated how you get on with it!

my board was delayed in the netherlands, but has arrived at the suppliers this morning so paid the extra £5 for sat delivery. will post some pics and updates over the weekend :) looking forward to getting it now. not sure why they have got them in so early.
wouldn't like to say 100% these will be shop prices, as like I said, im getting it from our supplier (which are normally very close to etailer prices).

those are the ones I had a choice of :p went for the Extreme6 in the end. the biostar ones were in stock yesterday so was tempted, but resisted the temptation as I really wanted another ASRock one.

The Extreme4 has struck me as the best bang for buck that I've seen so far on Z77.

Seems to have decent components, fairly good number of phases, and so forth.

Just noticed something when I went to read the manual for it... Published December 2011.

That means all the board manufacturers have been sitting all year so far saying "FFS Intel pull the finger out and get Ivy Bridge moving!"

haha yeh, think it was the same with AM3+ though, the boards were delayed and delayed from going on the shelves, and then they gave up waiting for BD and just shipped them.

the Extreme 4 was tempting, but seeing as it was free I thought I might aswell take the 6

comparing the Z77 against the Z68 there is little in it, and on some the Z77 is cheaper. so I can see more people choosing this on new builds than the Z68 had when launched.

im really keen to see how the Lucid MVP vsync thing. as I have to use vsync on everything, be nice if this did what it seems to read like, and lets me turn it off and have high FPS without the tearing.
