Which is favourite to RMA - PC won't boot

Exactly same motherboard same symtoms - tried everything bar trying a different PSU

PSU unlikely, but one never knows.

I'll await the outcome of my RMA - id be inclined given my experiences, that its the motherboard.

Unomelodica

Is it possible to simply connect the speaker to 12v to see if it works ?.

I daren't try it because it might be designed to work on a lower voltage and then I won't have a working speaker.

As it would happen I've had this exact problem with with 2 different models of Asus motherboard before.

symptoms are, everything powers up, looks ok, but it just wont boot and theres no post. Both times in the past its been the Asus Motherboard faulting. As such I try to avoid purchasing Asus motherboards anymore.

Basically if the motherboard isnt telling you what the problem is then its becuase its the motherboard that has the problem.

As I read the manual with this memory you can adopt options A or B.

I could have misunderstood but that memory is 3 x 2 GB so option B is presumably the only realistic option.
I don't know what the 'V' below the 'available options' means unless it's verified.

I've tried each module in turn in A1, B1 and C1.

Just to recap the new build won't boot but there is power to the fans, DVD etc.
Does this imply that the 8 pin supply to the MB is probably OK and that if there is a problem with the new PSU it is with the 24 pin supply.

Or have I missed something.

Hey fella

I posted something similar about two weeks ago

I tried everything and was losing hope.

A new motherboard solved my problem.

What I suggest is trying the power supply in a mates PC. if it works then switch the mobo.

I found on my old mobo that one of the capacitors was pointy rather than flat. I didnt notice it my mate did to be honest he has a keen eye.

Anyway, i could get the fans to spin for about 5-10 secs then it shuts down. No POST sounds or beeps from the speaker.

I tried a new power supply and that didnt work. Eventually got a new mobo and that fixed issue. Ive bought a new power supply too just to feed something efficient to my mobo. I posted about this too.

So, get the mobo rma'd

I don't think anyone I know would be happy to let me try out a PSU, which could be faulty, in their PC.

It may be very unlikely to cause a problem, but I've already got issues with my two PC's, and don't want to start tinkering with a third, belonging to someone else.

I need to try a PSU in my old PC so I'll be trying it in there unless I find a good reason not to.

Thanks

anyone with an old pc??
or yea try it in your old pc see what happens.

like i say though - i bet a mobo switch will have you up and running.

good luck

assuming you've tried building it out of the case (on a yellow pages or something) I'd be inclined to point the finger at the mobo.

there is one thing that caught me out once though... check the ATX plug to make sure the pins (yellow in particular) have not been recessed; it won't be making contact with the header otherwise.

All the pins, and sockets, look similar and none appear recessed.

The PSU has one 'socket' blank ie empty opposite the very light gray lead.

There is however a corresponding 'pin' on the motherboard but I can only assume this is normal.

Thanks

Edit: I've checked the general wiring for the 24 pin on the Internet and my best guess is that the blank location corresponds to one of several earths on the 'plug' on the Motherboard.
