Been looking at:

Thermalright Ultra 120

Scythe Shogun

Scythe Ninja Plus Rev B

Noctua NH-U12

Scythe Infinity

Tuniq Tower 120

Zalman CNPS9700-NT

Noise is a consideration - and it looks as though the Zalman can get quite loud (up to 30db! not what I expected)

All the ones that don't come with a fan I would get high cfm, low noise fan. There's one I know of which pushes nearly 90cfm at 19dB :)

Thanks! Just returned the Titan Amanda because I don't have a spare PCI slot and want something good!

I'd say the Tuniq having read so many great reviews of it. I'd say that's the best cooler out of the bunch, but it may not be the quietest. Vanessa-L is another worth considering though.

:)

I have the Zalman on one of my rigs and must say i have been pretty happy with it so far. But yes it is pretty loud compared to some. I like the look of the Tuniq but haven't seen one in the flesh so to speak.

Tuniq tower seems to be the general consensus around here.

Yeah - I've been looking at a few reviews.... it seems to come down to the Tuniq tower or the Thermaltake Ultra 120... both seem to give very similar performance and are significantly better than the likes of the Zalman.

Now I've just got to figure out which one I prefer! lol

From what i've seen, Tuniq is nice.

I have the Zalman 9500 and don't really have anything bad to say about it and the 9700 is only an improvement :)

Yeah - I have the 9500 at the moment... but I want to push my CPU as far as possible - getting a whole new cooling system, but sticking with air and I want it quiet.

Getting a Silverstone TJ09 and kitting it out with 5x 90CFM 19dB 120mm fans and want a new cooler to go with it :D But the 9700's noisier than the 9500 and I don't like that :(

Sorry to hi-jack thread, but also looking for a good and quiet cooler for the new conroe (E6300) i'm going to be building. How loud is the Tuniq, because i saw a couple of reviews and they said it did get quite noisy. How easy is it to install and would it fit in a Lian-Li PC7+?

The good thing about the Tuniq - you can change the fan to whatever you want - Akasa do a good one which pushes about 40-50cfm at 18dB and there's a good SilenX which pushes 90cfm at 19dB... both are practically silent

I'm going to try the one that comes with it - but I have a spare Akasa fan - so may switch to that and try it.

Whoa nelly! They work plenty good without the lapping, but I am merely a perfectionist. Forget B&Q or sandpaper! Halfords is where to go, you are after wet&dry paper, yellow flatpacks and they do an assorted pack, going from 240 or 400 grit iirc up to 1500 or so. Flat surface like a glass table, parcel tape etc to hold it down, plenty of water, nice gentle motions (believe me you will know to do this with the top heavy beast) and some guff on the telly and you are sorted ;).

The Tuniq can be set from extremely quite to noticeably loud. Let's put it this way. I have one in my media center downstairs where it has to be quiet. I am overclocking a 6400 at a gentle 3.1Ghz or so (nowhere near limit, not needed in the media center) and I have the Tuniq pumping out at only 1120 rpm in the BIOS. Combining that with 2 sharkoon Silent Eagle 1000 120MM fans and trust me, it's quiet enough to not be heard AT ALL from as little as a few feet away. It's in an alcove which naturally acts as a sound amplifier. If it was out in the open it would be even quiter. The fans in the TV drown out any chance of hearing it too either.
