I am getting bit feed up with Virgin upload speed and thinking of jumping ship somewhere because to get more upload we will be looking at paying £50 from them, at the moment we paying £34 per month and looking around most providers are within this price bracket, so something with £30 per month same sort of down speed but more upload speed pls.

I was checking EE fiber but it looks like they have very poor reviews, Plusnet will be charging £50 installation fee if I go with them, BT is about £30 for 50 down but can't see what is the up speeds, to me they all look the same been honest and not sure if is worth it?

I fully understand speeds will very in location but it don't look like there is much competition between providers.

Who would you recommend?

I’d recommend plusnet.

Obviously use the tools available to check how fast a new connection would be. If you’re a long way from the cabinet you could be disappointed.

Check the cash back on TopCashback and quidco. They often offer £80 or more for new fibre connections. Their current offers are a bit low, but if you wait a few weeks they’ll probably improve.

The problem with FTTC fibre is that it still all depends on your phone line, like it did back in the days of ADSL (I say that as if some people still aren't stuck with that...). It could end up being even worse than Virgin and don't get me started on the idiocy that is DLM that seemingly nobody has any control over.

For that reason I'd recommend an ISP with good support, such as Plusnet or a smaller outfit like Zen (though you'll be paying a bit extra for it).

Four basic profiles exist for FTTC, 38/2, 38/10, 52/10 and 80/20. 38/2 isn’t really used anymore (Plusnet used to sell it, then stopped), standard fibre speed is 38/10 for most, BT use 52/10 as standard and the premium option for everyone is 80/20. The thing you need to check before hand is what your line is actually capable of, any service provider will give you a range that they expect to be able to offer you based on your line. Pointless paying for 80/20 if your line can’t do more than 40 down.

Thanks for replies, I had a chat with virgin today and wanted to find out what they could do for current customers because nothing looked good on there website but I didn't told them that I will move somewhere else I just wanted a upgrade, anyway we have tv from sky very basic package so is about £21 plus £34 for Virgin Broadband, I was only interested in broadband upgrade from them but they offered Vivid 350 with 350 down and 21 up speed, mix bundle tv for £49 for 12 month contract, in all honesty sounds good to me.
