This is my setup so far just need help choosing a Motherboard, now i have 3 in mind: The reasons:

ASUS P5B-Deluxe 965p
ASUS Commando 965p
Intel BAD AXE 2 975x

I know 975x boards are better for the E6600 thats why the Bad Axe is in that list. Thats the main reason why i might choose this board purly becuase it is a 975x Board. Nothing else, the layout is nothing special and features are nothing to get excited about. IMO

I know about the FSB of the 975x so no need to go into that :)
So could someone explain whats so good about these boards. Or the advantages anyway.

If both ASUS boards where 975x chipsets i would defiantly go for them because i really like them, the way the board is lay`ed out and the features are brilliant in my eyes.

I know this doesn't give the answer you were looking for, but have you considered looking at the new Asus P5N-E SLI 650i?

I held back on purchasing the 975X motherboard a few months ago for the arrival of the 680i, but now the 650i has been released it is a potential winner (especially if you want to overclock). I have the same processor and just ordered the 650i the other day.

My friend brought the Asus P5B deluxe a while back and he is very happy with it. He doesn't overclock, just installed it straight away without entering the bios, and he hasn't encountered a single BSOD yet!

Hope this helps,

JP

With all your components listed go for either BAD AXE 2/680i nForce! Both near the same money and the BFG nForce 680i is on this week only special.

It looks like money is no object with the specifications you've listed so those two should do fine, but the nForce 650i is also a cracking motherboard and good for those on a budget and what excellent performance.

Yes i have been looking at a few 650i-680i boards but not for me :(

I will defiantly going for one of the boards listed.

If that Intel BAD AXE 2 Board was not a 975x i wouldn't even consider it because like i said the layout and the featueres are nothing to shout about IMO.

Whats the actual diffrence between 975x and 965p chipset boards anyway that make a E6600 so good with them?

Thanks

975x has Crossfire support 16 x 16, 965p cheaper and also supports crossfire but only at 8x - 4x. Not sure about the 965p future support of up and coming 1333FSB processors but rumors has it that it could be a simple bios update.

Highly recommend the BADAXE 2 in this case.

Well you do have such good hardware components listsed above so it be a shame to let it down. Treat yourself get a BadAxe 2 or a Gigabyte DS3 if your not after X-Fire, on offer for £82 notes this week only.

The P5B-Deluxe and The Commando are both good solid Motherboards are they not?

Just don't know if 170 odd quid is worth for a motherboard just for the 975x Chipset side of things.

Like i said i don't think its particular layed out well nor has it got any good features.

So now the question becomes will i see any real major performance boost from the Intel Bad AXE 2 over the Commando?

Google some reviews about the motherboards your after then make your mind up. I've heard and read some good reviews on the BAD AXE 2, stable and good performance not read any bad views or comments on it so far.

Wll im down to two boards now. The ASUS P5B-Deluxe or the ASUS Commando.

Ive ruled out the Intel Bad Axe 2 because if i was going to get it i would only be getting it because of the 975x validation. And i dont think the price justify s that.

Unless someone can change my mind seriously.

Anyway with that one out of the way its either the ASUS P5B-Deluxe or the ASUS Commando to go with my new E6600. :)

What does everyone think of the Commando with that Heat Pipe design that i believe is slightly better than that of the P5B-Deluxe one?

And what about the LCD how do you think that will fair.

Sorry i ramble but when spending £1500 i want to get as good as parts as i can get and that interlink with each other. :)

Thanks everyone.

Personally i'd go for the badaxe2, nothing but good things about it ive heard...

975x gives you an extra ide, gives you ability to let ram run slower than cpu too and performs better at the same clock speed as a 965 board...

But from them 2, definatly p5b deluxe, it clocks like mad and the commando is just overpriced, you pay for the exclusive thing that its a republic of gamers board or something, as far as i know it doesn't perform better as the p5b series...

I've just picked a Bad Axe 2 up for my major system overhaul inc. a new WC loop.

I managed to find the retail box for £152.00 online, which puts it in the P5W DH category price wise and beats anything at the same price.

Get the XBX2, you won't be dissapointed.

But like i said im paying all that money for one thing because its a 975x chipset i dont like the layout or the features compared to the ASUS P5B-Deluxe.

What im trying to say is will i see any real world performance between the Intel Bad Axe 2 and P5B-Deluxe?

I've read a lot of threads and comments about both motherboards and have all been positive both reliability and performace wise, go with which one has the better layout and what suits you. I would personally recommend the BX2 over the Asus just that i've heard it's rock solid and performance wise it's a stunner.
