Can anybody help me, im trying to figure out which modern ati cards have vivo on them. Im not looking for avivo, im looking for the ability to input a video signal aswell as output it.

So far google seems to only throw up old stuff from the agp days...

My X1800XT has full vivo (no tuner, but svideo in/out and so on) so i guess the X1900xt will also

my HD3870XT does NOT have video in... i thus doubt the hd2900 has it nor the 4x00 and 5x00 series

the X1x00 cards had the ati theater 200 something or other chip onboard that handled avivo

I don't believe that many graphics cards have video recording capabilities now in the age of digital displays.

However, I remember reading a good while back that although ATI were no longer going to produce all in wonder/VIVO cards they were creating a stand alone card using their rage theatre 200 (or higher) chip instead. Can't remember if they did or not....

I have used the VIVO capabilities on older ati cards and they were ok for average video capture, but not amazing.

I've since bought a "turtle beach video advantage ADX" pci card which works well with my std def camcorder (through firewire) but also works well with standard video via composite or s-video connections. Came with a fair bit of software too. Not sure if its available anymore though.

May be worth looking into getting a dedicated card (new or second hand) as you won't have to worry about loosing features when you upgrade your GFX card. :D Best of both worlds then.

The main reason for asking these questions is at the moment I run a pair of old radeon all-in-wonder cards and so far absolutley nothing has come close to the quality and ease of use for recording mpeg2 video.

I have tried countless tv cards, sifting the carp right up to expensive stuff and none of them hold a candle to the ati cards for what they do. Sooner or later these cards will either die or the boards will pop in some way and then I will be forced to change them over to pci-e and then im stuck. Looks like I will have to buy dedicated mpeg recorders :(
