Which new hot hatch?

Fair point. I've read that AST coilovers sort that anyway, but they are £2k, which I don't mind paying for in the New Year.

What happens with regards to parts on JDM cars? So for example if my car was in an accident, and I needed new panels, would they have to be sourced from Japan? Any ideas please JDM Honda owners?

Hi, id definatly take the FD2 for a test drive, awesome car.

Ive got a DC5, so obviously it's JDM, and most parts for it are easy to come by, Honda UK tend to stock most items, such as exhausts, brakes, etc. Im not 100% sure on other things such as body parts, i do know that new windscreen panels can be a nightmare. Usually you just give Honda your chassis number and they can get you parts pretty quickly.

And Clarkey the FD2 will not depreicate a lot, it's a JDM Honda, they hold there value very well.

There's one on piston-heads with the AST upgrade already done for £17kLink

One of these might very well be my upgrade path from my DC5 in a year or so, 2 more doors so family friendly but still got a K20, win win!

Insurance is the only pain with an import really, parts are a non issue due to the big base of imported Hondas already so lots of friendly dealers and suppliers.

Thanks for that, I didn't realise it had the AST's on!

The £15k isn't set in stone, I don't mind spending a few £k more for the right car, it just needs to handle as well as the Megane does, and I think the FD2 on those AST's will be a decent upgrade for me. I miss the NA engine from my Clio too, so this really does give me everything I need.

Need to sort a test drive... I'm not really after power, as I'd rather have a fun car with great handling, than a straight line heromobile.

I guess the other main contender is a Clio 200, which I could get a brand new one for at £17k, which is tempting. However, it will depreciate a lot quicker than an FD2 I'd imagine.

The only reason they are so dear now is because of the ultra weak 129jpy/£ rate. A 'normal' rate is about 190, at which point a 13k car becomes a sub 9k one. Time will have gone by though and normal depreciation will make it even cheaper still. I'd say there is a real potential for one to lose over half of its value in 3 years. I suppose the same goes for a lot of near new cars though, maybe I don't even have a point.

I really know fek all about golfs but what is it with there insistence to put those HORRIBLE checkered seats in them, they are horrific and look like they belong in the TV room of an old folks home. Other than that I think the Edition 30 Golfs look quite nice, however if it was my money and I had to spend around 15k I'd be on the lookout for the FD2, might need an extra 1 or 2k mind.

I'd have to agree. I believe it's a nod to the Mk1/2 GTI's which had a similar interior.

I think you can get full leather, but it's quite a premium! I'd not consider an Edition30 tbh, it's not £5k better than my car.

Not true mate, they were still expensive before the reccession and all that crap. A good condition DC5 will always hold it's value because it's a niche car. Hell most people think it's a civic with a big wing in white.

fonzee im waiting to come back off my holiday, because it's having a few things done, such as kakimoto catback, calipers refurbed, eibach springs and ive only just fitted me DD Sat Nav, then ill get some decent pics up. I have put 1 up, in the pictures thread, lol.
