Hi,

I was thinking of building an i5 system and was considering the following motherboards.

Asus P7P55D Evo or Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD4 both at around £150
Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD3 or Asus P755D closer to £100

I'll probably only be using a single gfx card. Unless I go with 2x radeon 4850. (I have one already...) The gigabyte mobos have usb3. The 2 cheaper mobos in i5 setup are probably better for single card configurations. The ASUS mobos all support dual gb LAN with teaming, gigabytes have single gb lan.

Can someone decide for me? :) Or is there some other board that I should really consider?

Thanks.

If you are going to spend £150 on a board for an i5,you'd only have to scrape together another £50 or so for an i7 920 setup.

£100 is as much as you want to spend and for that money I'd go for the Asus P7P55D.
If you want Xfire the P7P55D PRO is the cheapest in the range with 8x/8x support. (all the boards under the pro operate at 8x/4x in xfire mode)

With the i5 you want bang for buck which a £100 mobo provides nicely, much more and as above you only have to spend a bit more for an i7 setup.

I've now decided Im going for a performance socket 1156 system.

Im going to go with i7 860, and want to pair it up with a good mobo. I was considering the gigabyte p55A-UD* series which have usb 3 support etc and the asus's. The Asus P7P55D Evo looks like a good buy with dual gb LAN, and the maximus formula looks tempting. There's too much choice in the world! But at least I've settled on a processor.

Would the UD3 do me? At around £110 it's much cheaper, albeit with limited pcie. Someone told me it was a cheapo budget board though...

Have you seen the P7P55D-E series of ASUS boards? There is now USB 3 and Sata6 on the boards. The Maximus boards have got good reviews. If I was to build a P55 system right now, I'd build it around the P7P55D, it's in the £110ish price point and has pretty solid performance for that price.
