Hi,

I am currently sitting in an Argos office chair (need i say more  ), it was OK for the first few months if a bit uncomfy but has now started to wear away on the arms  . Ive been looking on the net for a suitable replacement and thought id ask on here for some good suggestions and online stores. My main criteria are as follows:

Must be well padded and comfy

Must have good back support as i spend a fair amount of time in it

I will also be using the chair to sit in whilst watching 24, Lost etc so would be good if it was like an arm chair if you will and recline as well.

My budget it £300 max, but it would have to be something really special to warrant that price, ideally id like to spend £200 or less.

I like the look of This leather managers chair , it looks nice and looks to be well padded and cheap as well, anyone got one?.

Thanks in advance

Mark

I actually really like my £35 'Executive Chair' from Stationery Box!
I wasn't expecting much but it's a really nice chair. There's a very similar (only the arms are different I think) one in Ikea for about £40, too.

I personally work best on a bar stool.

Try it!

Not much lumbar support on a bar stool :p , plus id rather not try reclining on one to watch a film  .

Thanks for the other suggestions, im looking to spend a bit more than £40 to ensure i get a good product that will last. My Argos chair was £70 and its awful.

Get yourself a second hand Herman Miller Aeron. I bought one 3 years ago and it's had some rough use yet it's in just as good condition as the day I got it. Easily the most sturdy chair I've ever had. They come with a 12 year warranty out of the factory IIRC, not many chairs claim to withstand daily abuse for 12 years and still work perfectly.
As for comfort, support and posture, the Aeron really is at the top of the league. I had a motorcycle accident just over 3 years ago in which I injured my back. I found it hard to sit in almost any type of chair apart from the Aeron. It really is a special chair.

The mesh is also great for fart dispersal, no more uncomfortable post fart moistness ;)

LOL :p

For the sake of the threadstarters health I hope your joking

I have a cheapy office leather chair too and it's horrible. When I get my summer job I might think about getting an Aeron as they are the only chair I hear people talking about.

/off topic Btw Tinkerbell I parped you on folding@home :D

Im going to steer clear of Argos, ive had nothing but rubbish furniture from them in the past, they look great but just dont stand the test of time.

Just googled this chair and it looks abit strange  , How much are they new?.

Herman Miller Aeron chairs are indeed fantastic. I had the pleasure of using them at all the office locations of the company I worked for on my placement year.

As a new purchase they're hideously expensive (I guess companies that buy hundreds at a time get a better price...) but as a used buy if in good condition they're quite tempting.

Between about £700 and 900 depending on options it seems...

Mine cost £300 and was only a few months old. You can pick them up from about £200 upwards.

I personally recommend the £30 high back leather chair that half this forum are probably sat on, from our long-boatsailing scandinavian competitor friends.

Ive had mine awhile and its still going strong, i give it a wipe over with some leather wipes now and again and that keeps it looking new

Sorry to slightly hijack the OP:
Will a 'b' sized Aeron chair be OK for the average male? I am about 5'10 and of slightly stockier than average build (NOT IN A FAT WAY!) :p :)

Yes it will be perfect, mine is a B. After my accident my weight went up to over 17st and I'm 5'10" with a stocky build. It was perfectly comfortable then. I'm 15st now and its just as comfortable.
