Which one?

Any paticular reason why the S2000 is so high on insurance? High crash rate? What's the deal?

A lot of them ended up backwards in hedges thanks to rear suspension failure snap-away on the earlier model... this lead to massive insurance hikes & they've stayed that way ever since.

Basically - to drive them on the limit, you need to know how to drive them or they will bite you in the backside...

But then some were caught out with an unavoidable failure.

Group's a abit irrelevant... I've insured other cars in the same group for 1/3 fo the money.

Stats are per individual car now, I believe.

True. However, I'm sure an RX8 would cost you less to insure than the s2k.

Also worth thinking about what you want... I know from personal experience that the RX8 is a really comfy car and that its very practical. I doubtthe same could be said about the s2k.

Oh heck yes! I ended up buying an RX8 instead of an S2000 because of the insurance cost.

S2K = £3.5k
RX8 = £750

... mad jump!

pft. least you were given a quote for the honda. I was around 24 at the time so I guess the people i spoke to thought I was a little too young... Who knows.

RX8 was a decent substitute though

I'm 24... with a non-fault accident & two speeding tickets... cheapest quote was through the evil that is admiral... think about 30-40 insurers quoted me - surprised you couldn't even get a quote!

Ah, ouch :(

Well, won't be for a while yet, so maybe they will come down a little? lol.

Either way, for me, the S2000 looks the best asthetically.

EDIT:

As for use, purely for fun. This car will NEVER be used for commuting as I cycle 5 mins into work (work in the town centre and live 2 miles away). Will probably do a few motorway trips. But mainly, just a fun car to own. Track days, drives over to Europe couple of times a year. Family visits, beach visits. Nothing repetative in the like.

Thankfully it's already starting to come down for me - so shouldn't be long until it's more reasonable.

Next road car purchase after track car is either going to be M3, 545 sport or S2000 :)

Yeah well living in north london didnt help lol. Strange they allowed me to have the RX8 though.... Will never understand these insurers and their computers.

If the insurance is silly (I pay in one go), then I might consider something else and use the extra money to 'upgrade' the alternative car. Would this be a better idea?

Does the next car have to be rwd?

Depends on just how much the insurance is for you - get some quotes from comparison websites. S2000s are definitely worth a premium over other cars in my eyes... but not to the premium of £3.5k! I'd settle for just under £2k.

RWD is the only correct drivetrain ;)

IF the budget allows it. Id say why not look up the integra dc5 :eek:

Good car, I can't deny that... but it won't scratch the spot for anyone with a RWD itch, in my opinion.

Certainly not mine... I just can't do FWD anymore... even my diesel mile-eater barge had to be RWD!

How old are you.

Don't compare an rx8 with s2000 via the same company. Some might price an s2000 so high as they don't want to insure them

I have no idea what this rear suspension failure thing is? The early ones are snappy on limit and combined with S02 tyres they had. High accident rate. Think of a 205 gti but with rwd and tyres that were optimised for dry weather.

24 at the moment, but won't be buying until spring next year which I will be 25 then.

A young gun.

Any suggestions for a good company to insure S2000s at a young age (21) Simon ? Admiral group arn't keen on me for them, whereas for everything else they kill the competition. Would easily sort my issue of what car I want if I could insure an S2k.

For comparison.

350Z - £1100, RX8 - £950, Z4 3.0 - £1100, S2000 - £2500
