Which program to author a DVD?

I've captured a lot of footage from video8/hi8 tapes through firewire on to my computer, I was using the built in Windows DVD maker but that has suddenly started to become problematic at the burning stage, failing at 99% which means the whole video needs re-encoding.

Can anyone recommend some nice free software which is more reliable? I've several hundred gigabytes of video taking up much needed space!

I've used DVD Architect before now and it's pretty good, it comes with a lot of the Sony Vegas packs. No it's not free but it's not that expensive either. Plus you can always download one of the free trials (they're fully functional)
