Hi folks,

I sold my 360 and got the PS2 down from the loft...Hooked it up to my 26" LCD TV and ran it via scart... The pic is terrible lol, very blurry!

I am looking to buy a component cable for it, so I can run it in component through the tv, thats how I had my 360 and the pic was amazing, hopefully it will improve it a bit for the PS2.

Question is;

Do I go for the official Sony PS3 Component cable for £17.99

(I may be getting a PS3 in future, which might help for that but not definate)

OR

Do I get a cheap 3rd party one for £7...?

I don't fancy the idea of using the Xploder thing, as I cba to change discs every time I want a quick game of Pro Evo 6 (plus it doesnt even say that its compatible with PE6 anyway!)

Thanks in advance :)

I used a £7.99 PS2 component cable for my PS3 and it worked absolutely fine with 720p/1080i. Don't have the means to test with 1080p.

Mine was £9.99 and it works fine.

It's more likely to be the type of cable rather than who made it that makes the difference.

After seeing how much better the official Xbox360 VGA cable was over 3rd party I refused to purchase anything but Sony's own component. Have yet to try it though.

If your buying the official you know your getting good quality (most of the time ;)), but 3rd party you never know it could either be great or could be bad. Myself I have to have official everything when it comes to things for my consoles since I always hated the cheap-tack 3rd party controllers you get that just dont feel right and they both look and feel cheap.

So get the official one if you dont mind paying the price for it or if you do get the cheap one, I can't comment on quality since I havent got one (yet) but I am interested because PS2 over composite on my HDTV is goddam aweful :p keep me posted on which one you go for though since Im about to get one myself (the official one that is).

U can buy a Monster HDMI cable for £50, i know its expensive but there is a nice improvement! There was anyway when i got my Monster Component cable for my 360. a lot crisper and sharper picture than the standard cable!

You mis-read its for his PS2 and maybe in the future for the PS3 if he gets one.

I bought the Official PS3 Component cable.

I set the PS2 settings to display component.

I must admit, I don't think there has been much difference! It's still a pretty naff picture, but it seems to be the games settings, looks worse on 60hz than 50hz.

Is there a way to make the game show in 478p (or something?)

Sean

build quality will be much better on the official..

other than that the chances are you'll not notice the difference in terms of quality.

I use the Sony component cable. Looks decent enough. Although it does seem shabby compared to Microsoft's. I think MS must have extra shielding or something as the wires are a lot thicker than Sony's cable.
