Which road side cover

What they've done is provided you assistance as the non-fault victim of an accident, which they will recover from the third party insurer. This is a service anyone can get for free irrespective of whether they have paid for cover or not if they are involved in a non fault accident.

So, I say again, if your reason for purchase is to provide recovery in the event of an accident, you are doing it wrong.

thanks for the quotes, i don't have the brain power to understand what you said the first time, now i feel like you are far superior to me

I have AA Roadside with parts and garage bill cover. I've used it once - the alternator went on my 530i. The AA came, said 'The alternator has gone', towed it to the garage, who replaced it. I paid a £25 excess.

£150 - £50 Quidco.

That's the option for me.....either the garage and parts or onward travel with hire car bit.

the garage and parts is only on one car though but the cover is for both of us in any car.

Will they fix anything which dies if/when you break down? I mean, what if you're gear box went....would they fix that too?

Sorry what are you on about now?

They will pay the first £500 of any bill provided the car breaks down and is unable to safely complete its journey.

I got a letter from the RAC early December offering me a year for 50 quid. Recovery etc but not home start as if it's on my drive i can sort it myself or with mates etc I think the cover starts 100 foot from my house or summit. Handy for my long trips down to my Daughters but better than that if i break it when off road i can get a mate to tow me to the nearest road & then get RAC to lift me home. :D +
I'd say a pound a week is well worth it.

i was just contributing to the thread with my recent experience of the rac recovering my car and putting me up in a hotel for the night and providing me with transport home, i didn't request to be spoken to like a child from an internet hard man, but that's me trolling - love it

I didnt speak to you like a child at all - I simply explained what the RAC policy on accident recovery was, as it seemed you were claiming a benefit of holding a policy was accident recovery, whereas the RAC themselves state they don't do this.

I then explained to you a possible reason why you received the service you did.

Why make such an issue of it?

Yep, up to 5 times a year or something. Also on the right policy they will do this from a home start / home assitance, which they never used to do.

Why does there have to be a catch? Because it's cheaper?

It works because some people forget to fill in their claim forms and pop them in the post.

So long as you have a debit/credit card on you at all times when driving and are able to pay the recovery mob upfront, and then send your form off in the post (takes about a minute to complete), you'll get reimbursed within a week.

I can vouch for that. Had a dead battery a couple of months ago; thought I'd try a boost/check voltages first before buying a new one. AutoAid covers Homestart. I first directly phoned 2 places which quoted me £50 or so each and told me it would take 2h to get to me. I then called AutoAid who put me through to one on their list. The latter were at mine within 90 minutes as promised. They tested it, found it had not much capacity and should be replaced, but gave it a boost anyway. I paid £35 on the spot by card, which I then claimed for and received in 2 weeks.

So, it all went well for a change. :)
