Which Single card is faster than 8800GTX in SLI?

What about the latest offerings from Nivida or ATI, don't care about price

Yeah price isn't an option, and i play at 1920*1200 with at least 4AA, so the 5870 is diffenently quicker? By how much do you think? maybe i should mention i have an Nvida motherboard, does that make any differnce?

I think the GTX285 (and possibly the GTX275) should be faster than a pair of 8800GTXs, also the HD4870x2 (and possibly the HD4890).

The HD5870 is currently the fastest single GPU card out there, probably faster than 3 8800GTXs in SLI.

Only cards that are faster enough to be worth upgrading are 295GTX, 4870X2, 5870.

8800GTX in SLI will probably be faster than a 285GTX in quite a few cases.

A 5870 should be a decent bump in performance, however, a 5850 will probably give you a bump, and well, it remains to be see if they overclock as high as 5870's do, but they overclock a fair bit which gets them pretty close to a 5870 for £100 less.

The 5870 is at least twice as fast as my 8800GTX in most things, and since SLI never scales 100% it's safe to say it'll be faster than 8800GTX SLI.

I thought all the ones I have seen is that overclocked they match a 5870 stock, with the voltage bump they out perform a 5870 stock?

i meant, I've still not really seen, as standard, if a 5850 will overclock as high as a 5870 will overclock. So if 5870's can mostly do 950-1000mhz, if it turns out 5850's can also average 950-1000mhz then there really is little to no point in getting a 5870 at all. If even overclocked they won't ever get past say 875Mhz, its still a great card, but you're still losing 10-12% performance over the 5870. Still not worth it in terms of value, but if you want the fastest card for the best performance you always pay a premium.

I went from 8800GTX SLi to a single 285GTX. They are about equal in some titles, however the 285GTX is 100% better in games with poor or no SLI support.
If you wanted a single card, your best best would be a 5870. I have never tried an ATI card so I have no idea how you will get on with drivers.
I would still get a 285GTX and add a 2nd card later however. (Or wait for the 300 series)

You be best to wait a few weeks for the 5870x2 to get released...

As a single 5870 is not really that much of a step up from your SLI 8800gtx...

Well, my 8800's in SLI get 20,500 3d marks on a 4ghz QX9650, wouldn't say there was that much in it really, depending on the games (COD4/5 do very vell in SLI - for example).

that is what i was think, i would be looking at at least twice the perforamce all round, but without SLI or Crossfire, because it would be one less thing to worry about

5870 is the card to get if you dont want SLi/Crossfire on a stick cards.
