Hi I am building a PC for someone, they bought the components, but have bought 1 x 4gb stick of RAM instead of 2x2gb. Which slot should it go in on an Asus P8Z68-V LX please? no instructions in box (refurb)

Thanks

Can he DSR the RAM and swap to a 2X2GB kit?

+1

As a single 4GB stick will only run in single channel mode, while a two stick kit will run in dual channel mode (twice the theoretical bandwidth).

May i ask what graphics card they are using? As any discrete video memory will detract from the 4GB system RAM, since 32bit windows can only address a maximum of 4GB total system memory.

Edit: Looking at the manual for that board, it recommends:

One DIMM:
We recommend you install one memory module in the blue slots (DIMM_A2 or DIMM_B2) to get better performance

So that would be the second or fourth memory slot from the CPU (one of the blue ones).
