Currently got a 2015 208 as my first car after commuting by motorbike for 20 years.
looking to get Something newer But still reasonable to insure and cheap to run.
38 year old with 1 years ncb so insurance is still offensive at £800 per year on the 82bhp 208.

Id happily have another newer 208 as it’s nice to drive and comfortable.
others I’ve looked at are

Skoda Fabia Tsi 95 or 115 versions.
Renault Clio TCE 90/100
New shape 208
Vauxhall/PSA Corsa
VW Polo
or Ford Fiesta which I do like the look of but really dubious of the horror stories of the Ecoboom engines.

would electric work for you? You could get a zoe/corsa/mini/mii that's only a couple of years old for that money. Not sure about cheap to insure but if you've got the ability to charge at home/work then it should be cheap to run.
Unfortunately Charger too expensive to fit currently. And as for work 4 charge points in the whole hospital.

or

The new shape Yaris is lovely. Had one of them in Rhodes in 2022. Lovely to drive. Especially on decently surfaced Roads. Even when the road started melting at 46 celcius.
