Ive got Vista 64 and 4gb Ram. Xmas is coming up and going to get the missus to but me a soundcard and those Logitech 5.1 speakers £200 odd quid ones.

What soundcard do I get? £100 - £200

Ive heard loads of pproblems about the Creative card with Vista 64?

Whats the alternative? I would rather not have to mess about with drivers and stuff.

If you want sound quality, get an external DAC. EMU 0404 USB is very good (probably better than most sound cards) for £130. Comes with lots of features and a decent headphone amp.

Apparantly the Xtreme Music is better than the Xtreme Gamer.

Something to do with the capacitors on them?

Seeing how I just happen to be looking for a sound card which is really better for gaming?

The price of a xtreme gamer and a xtreme music are around the same price and many have said the gamer is better however tute comment is interesting, would u really go for music despite it being an older card. It classed as 5.1 instead of 7.1 is that true??

whoever told you the gamer was better is talking shash mate. they are both the same design, except the music uses better components and you can generally plug a lot more in to it.

Lo James - long time no see :D

o0ol0o0o0o so if i had a choice better to go for the music then for gaming :D. The physical card for gaming is dinky (small) compared to the music card which is huge in comparison.

Only thing i really hate about creative is that they have a tenancy to forget past customers and shelf discontinued and EOL products. Kinda worried that if i get the music card, in the distant future they would then eventually stop making drivers/software/support for it and leave u out in the lurch, like they done with my current ancient 5.1 card which is doing fine as i got a 2.1 setup :(
