Which Stephen King Book?

Salem's Lot is a great place to start. From his earlier books Carrie, Firestarter, Eyes of the Dragon and Talisman are very accessible. There's no need to read everything he's done, or to read it in order, but you'd be better reading from his early stuff to his later stuff - there's themes in a lot of his books that start to tie in together.

Good later stand alone books include the Green Mile, Dark Half and Needful Things.

One well worth reading that goes under the radar is the Colorado Kid. It's a short read, but a fantastic story.

Why has no one mentioned the Tales of the Lawnmower Man? :p It'll only take you ten minutes to read, as well. ;)

I've only read Dolores Claiborne, and it was excellent. I have It and Salems Lot sat on my bookcase, and I would say that It looks like very intense reading (much like the Shining I believe), but very good so I've heard.

Read Salem's Lot 19 times, the same copy bought in Kings Cross the same year as the fire there, my favourite book ever written. Make me a fan of SK for many years.

Other noteable goodies:
The Dark Half
Night Shift
Thinner

Always loved his take on the darker side of things...
