Hi

My younger brother is in the market for a new monitor to replace his old 17" CRT monitor.
He is an art student and would use it primarily for gaming and a lot of photoshop, etc work.

He tends to play a lot of fps games such as, HL2, Quake, DOD, DOOM, etc.
He has a pretty good setup with a XFX GeForce 6800 GS Extreme XXX Edition 256MB graphics card.

As he is a student, he obviously has a tight budget but is willing to go slightly above the £250 budget if its really worth it.

So, can anyone suggest a tft monitor that would suit his needs and obviously the bigger the better (19" / 20") and widescreen would be a bonus.

Would any of the following tft's be suitable:

- Acer AL1916W 19" Widescreen - £182
- Acer AL2016Ws 20" Widescreen - £288
- Samsung SM-913N 19" LCD Monitor - £193

Thanks

well at that budget you're looking at models based on TN Film panel technology. The good thing is, these are nice and responsive and well suited to gaming. However, colour depth is only 6 bit (not really a major issue, you might find it hard to tell the difference anyway with modern TN panels) and black depth is not always the best. The Samsung 913N would be a good choice, offering arguably some of the best colour reproduction and black levels for a TN Film panel. The Acer models are nice too, but build quality is not always as good, and the panels used (from CPT) are not as well proven. I haven;'t seen stats of their colour reproduction, but the Samsung might be a safer bet in this area.
