It's for my grandparents and it has to be a 48-50" anything bigger is just a bit too big for the room. I think there is 4 chooses for this I have narrowed it down to for a 4K TV, as they do not upgrade their TVs often its best to future proof it.

I'm leaning towards the LG 49UB850V and SAMSUNG UE48HU7500. The LG at that price you can't really go wrong and I have the LG in the 55” version and think it is fantastic but the Samsung has been given such good reviews also.

I have forgot to add on the PANASONIC TX-48AX630B but have not seen much on this?

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Sony BRAVIA KD49X8505BBU 49" Smart 3D 4k Ultra HD LED TV

I think it is a nice gesture that you are buying them a 4K telly, however (no insult intended) I think it would be a waste if all they plan on doing is watching either Sky or Freeview, due to the lack of 4K content out there at present. I'd save a few bob and buy the forum favourite the Sony KDL50W829. AFAIK its on offer with a free soundbar until Xmas.

If you do plan on going with the original plan, I'd go for the TX-50AX802B.

review of it here.

This..... any day of the week and twice on Sundays.

The scaling is the most impressive I've seen in both 4K and HD TVs. It manages to make Freeview watchable! The lag for gaming is impressively low too. The colour balance out of the box is pretty reasonable although on the examples I've seen and calibrated it still throws too much blue in to the picture. But that said, it's nowhere near as over-blue as the rest of the 4K TVs I've seen.

Calibration makes a huge difference to most TVs, and this one is no exception. It's not just in colour accuracy but in real detail (as opposed to artificial sharpness) and motion too. With a set that is arguably one of the best in the current market it deserves to deliver maximum performance. Calibration is definitely something to consider.

The other Panasonic set - the 630 - isn't a patch on the performance.

If you're curious about the 802 then Roy Jowett AV in Colne has one on demo and Shane there really knows his stuff. Book a demo and take along some of your favourite Blu-rays but also a couple of DVDs. He can show you Freeview too. He can also show you the set as it comes and also what it looks like after being professionally calibrated.

Colne is a little bit of a hike - about 80 minutes for me from South Cheshire/North Staffs border - but worth the trip. There's so few decent dealers around who have stuff on show, properly set up and who are genuinely knowledgeable rather than just quoting mag reviews and telling you what you want to hear just to close a deal.

.

Agreed. I have a 50" 802b and it's stunning. 4k netflix software now works too as a bonus. I'd highly recommend.

Thanks for all the comments, only thing left is to go have a look around at afew of them. I will defiantly consider the Panasonic more as I had been swinging towards the samsung more also looks like Roy jowetts av is around 80mile from me so I will check around closer.

Thanks again!

The only complaint with the AX802 well two, are the Viewing angles can be poor due to it's VA panel, so for anyone sitting of centre it can looks poor, and the light bleed on the side's which makes dark scenes look terrible.

Other than those it's a great TV, although if hard of hearing you may want to get a sound bar, as with most modern TV it's pretty poor.

Any LCD TV is like that unless you have an IPS set but then… you lack good black levels and contrast ratio. Having non light bleed is panel lottery.

another week and another £200 price drop on the Panasonic Viera 50AX802B.

Think I am going to bite at this price point.
