Which tyres?

Checked my current tyres on that website (Pirelli P6000) and they didn't do too well at all! So I guess anything's an improvement over them? They've always seemed fine to me, covered 30,000 on them since I bought the car and never found them to be lacking.

The Hankooks and Yokohamas scored quite a bit better than the Contis too. Confused now...

Had a quote from a local garage to fit tyes at £12 per tyre inc VAT.

Tracking checked for free, £25 inc VAT if a front OR rear adjustment is needed, £45 inc vat if front AND rear needs adjustment.

This sound about right?

Yes that is expensive!

The place I go to does 4 corners for £20 fully balanced.

If it is a free tracking check they will tell you it is out. The place I go let you watch them so you know if it is out, not just trusting some failed mechanic telling you.

Ok cheers, I'll keep looking then.

As for the tracking, I'm pretty sure it needs doing. Had the car 4yrs and bumped a few kerbs/potholes in that time!

Where on earth do you guys go to get quotes of like £15 a tyre? Both in Norwich and in Bristol I've had the whole set done for £15 or less!

This was a local place rather than one of the chains as I thought it would be cheaper! Not sure if it's more as I'm supplying the tyres myself?

I've emailed Hi-Q and Halfrauds Autocentre too so will see what they come up with. Failing that, some lard and an old spoon should do the trick.

Where the hell do some of you get a full set of tyres fitted so cheaply? Cheapest I can find locally is £60!! Most places tell me **** off when I ask how much to fit tyres that I'll supply, they're simply not interested unless I'm buying tyres from them (they always have a rubbish choice and charge vastly more than camskill).

Whether you find a place that charges 15p or £15 a corner, the main thing is if they do a good job and not bugger up your alloys.

Fast-Fit in norwich did a set of my Mini wheels for £12.
The place round the corner in redland in bristol did them for £16 or 20? I forget now.

Bought 2 Conti Premium Contact 2's in the end from Camskill for £137 delivered, just had them fitted, tracking done, 4 wheel balance and track rod arm replaced (old one was pretty much in 2 bits) for £80.

its not the same car, but I have just ordered 2 continental tires as well.

its a Suzuki swift 1.5 GLX

needed both front tires, went for the new 2012 version of the tire - basickally about 10% better overall, particularly wet braking and ware...

after checking prices and talking to my local garage. they would supply and fit the conti2's for 92 a corner, or the conti5's at 110 a corner. ordering on-line and with delivery and the garages fitting ill basically be getting the conti5's for the price they were asking for the cont2's.

this was from http://www.camskill.co.uk/

Dan

The Continental Sport Contact 2's have been excellent on my Passat 2.0T, certainly one of the better tyres I've ever bought and gives me more confidence in the corners.
