Hey guys,

Thinking about updating my desktop again - I suspect the first thing that needs upgrading is the graphics card - can you tell me what I should be upgrading to / how much benefit I'll get out of it? System specs below.

CPU - Intel Core i5 2500K 3.30Ghz @ 4.50Ghz
MB - MSI P67A-GD53 (Socket 1155) DDR3
RAM - Corsair 16GB 1600MHz
GPU - Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 6950 2GB GDDR5
SSD - Intel X25-M Mainstream 80GB
PSU - XFX 750W XXX Edition Modular
Case - Cooler Master HAF X

Budget is probably around £300 and needs to last 2-3 years on high settings for modern FPS, MMORPGs & RTSs. It can stretch above or below that, but only if it's worth it - looking for good performance for the money.

Thanks!

Buy one of the new r9 280s I have a 7850 and it handles most games on ultra other than the super amazing games like crysis metro etc but if it isn't ultra its on high or very high what ever is under ultra on a game

280 = 7970 wouldn't call it a "new card"

I owe 7850 and no, its in-capable of running most games on ultra...

Wait for 290 with aftermarket coolers, if you changing every 2-3 years it will be better to get the 290 with decent cooler

Is the 290 a new card then?

Yes its a new card, and its only 5-6% slower than a 290x apparently but atleast £100 cheaper. So well worth the price. I've got a 6970 and im waiting on a 290 with custom coolers to be released except Gibbo is saying to expect them in late December early January so that should be in your time frame.

290 should have 3rd party coolers by december and would be my current pick of GPU. Offering great performance for the money

I have the wind force oc it handles bf4 ultra

Yeah! The game will turn on but that's about it. If you like to play with around 30fps i have nothing to add....

Yea I got to agree. There's a big difference between being able to run a game and actually been able to play a game on ultra/high settings.

For pc gaming IMO and prob most other pc gamers will agree anything lower than 30-45 FPS on average is generally unplayable. However I usually aim for 60 FPS for a smoother experience.

At the minute i play on low/medium to get around 120fps with 7850 OC to 1200.

Just can't play with lest than 60fps (ideally 120fps)
