hi guys.

mother in laws's pc gone all screwy so i want to restore from a backup. but its saying the disks i have arent the right version.

how can you tell which version of windows created a backup?

cheers guys.

nah, its an OCUK machine i bought her.

problem is i think they tried to do a win10 update then stopped. which just shows as C drive being blank now. but i cant even restore from a windows backup as it says wrong disk.

i looked in the OCUK orders and it was a "Primo 6100i" Intel Core i3 2100 3.10GHz DDR3 Dual Core System that we got her. which seems to be win7 HP but my win7hp disks dont seem to work. im sure all were 64bit too.

ah for gods sake. you need a valid win7 serial now to even download them and its not letting me use any of my group licenses to download an ISO and i cant get hold of her now.

FFS this is far more of a pain in the arse than i hoped lol.

I don't think there is a variation in the backup media needed to restore from backup other than 64 / x86

So if its 32bit you need a 32bit restore disk, it shouldn't matter if its home etc.

Though saying that home has some quirks to say the least :)

had to torrent win7 64bit ISO as it wasnt allowing me to use our multi user SN to even download more. crazy huh? even though it was same 64bit

then it was giving me crap about EFI etc. what a ball ache.

finally managed to get it restoring from a backup now.

you agree to help someone out and it always comes back to kick you in the nuts.
