Adobe Premiere is really as good as your gonna get on a Windows Platform, or you could shoot for Final Cut Pro on a Mac.

One good package that is not too complicated and does the lot in one program .ie capture ,edit , write to DVD is Pinnacle .I use Pinnacle 9 and have done some great DVD's using some of my footage . Capturing is a dream with no dropped frames .Some very good transitions and the ability to add titles & soundtrack . When it's all finished it'll put straight onto a DVD .Others I use are Sony Vegas & Serif Movie Plus , these will allow multiple video & audio time lines with some great effects like picture in picture and the use of overlays. The serif package was only £50 or so , well worth the money .
