With a budget of £80ish I'm tempted by the Ibanez Weeping Demon at £79 or The Morley Power Wah for £49.

What do you use and why?

What's wrong with a Crybaby? I've heard good stuff about the Weeping Demon, right enough, but no one I've spoken too has ever been bery impressed with Morley wahs...I've never tried one, so can't comment. I use a standard Crybaby, about £60ish I think it was, and I've got no complaints. I'm also completely confident that if I just dropped it out of my window right now, it would be my patio that sustained the most damage, not the Crybaby. :p

Nothing really wrong with the Cry Baby it just seems that the Weeping demon has so many more features for an extra £20 and both the Ibanez and Morley pedals have an on off footswitch that isn't underneath the main pedal. The other thing I like is the idea of the Electro-optical tomfoolery vs potentially crackly pots in a year or twos time.

I'm not ruling anything out though, if this turns into a thread about how good Cry Babys are then I will reconsider :)

I have an HBE medicine bawl wah.

I suggest you try them out as they're all different. You might not even like using wahs :p

I've used crappy ones years ago and have a Zoom G2.1U thingy with a pedal, unfortunately it is designed with a 3 year old foot in mind and travels about 2 cm giving really limited control, it may as well be an on off for all the subtletly it gives you.

On the flipside, the crybaby, the parts are cheap and easy to replace, and can take tonnes of abuse.

Might be worth going for a second hand crybaby if you can test it first to check its condition.

I'd say try get the 535Q 2nd hand or whatever it's called. The one with adjustable "Q" control :o

Afaik mine is a kind of "Top of the range" crybaby thing. It's a close to classic thing but not too expensive (£150 from USA) made with all the "vintage" parts :p. I'd liken it to the 535q in terms of features.

The Morley's crap, don't bother, I've had one and unless your tone's clean it has zero wah effect to be honest, unless mine was broken

Go to a shop and try some out, a Crybaby usually suits most people's needs.

In the CryBaby reviews it seems the Fasel?? makes all the difference but as far as I can tell that version retails at £99 vs £59 for the standard.

What the hell is a fasel?

ive just got an order coming through from them now (a dod flanger at a steal of a price and a cheap delay to see if ill use it)

ordered friday (remember bank holiday)

ill let you know how it goes :)

edit: and my vote goes to the weeping demon

I bought a Morley wah a year or so again to replace my old Colorsound Wah (Crybaby type), but sold it again straight away as it just didn't have that "wah" sound!

Still using my 70's Colorsound:

I find the newer wahs just don't have the same classic feel, which is something people will like so bear in mind if you want "classic" or "contemporary" wahing!

Doesn't look like I'm really going to beat the CryBaby Classic for £80, I'm starting to think that the more pedals will do the more you mess around with them instead of just plugging in and playing.

I always go around in circles when buying stuff like this :D

Hey that's the luxury of choice and joy of lots of toys to play with! I spent the afternoon with all my rig over the living room floor tweaking my sound through my stack :D
