Hi,

Im buying a laptop tomorrow and I want to be able to use the internet in my room. The main pc is downstairs with a cable modem on blueyonder. What router would I need for a wireless connection?

Thanks

Thanks for the reply. How much did you pay? And so if I set it up right ill be able to transfer files from pc to laptop yeah?

Thanks

Agreed. WRT54GL if you want to guarantee not getting a lobotomised VXWorks version (though $deity knows where to get one, and asking where isn't on).

I had nothing but problems with my WRT54G. The first one was fine (a version 1.1) but I wrecked that with a 3rd party firmware. I then got another one (version 2.2) and that was hell. It kept crashing under any sort of load - high WiFi traffic (i.e. necessary network backups) killed it, as did Torrents and running a SRCDS (source dedicated server). And it wouldn't automatically reboot which was a big problem if I wasn't around when it crashed since I run my web and e-mail server at home.

However I know that the potential is there because like I said the version 1.1 was fine, so maybe it was just an isolated issue.

Just my 2p. Hope this helps, null :)

I had problems with an old linksys adsl router but linksys replaced it for an updated version.

I now have a netgear rangemax router and have never had any problems - definitely sticking with netgear now

Agreed. WRT54GL running the latest DD WRT Firmware. Runs like a dream and full of extra features for you to play with.
