Which would OCUK choose 5600x, 5700x or 5800x 3d

I'm doing the same dilemma, coming from a 3700X. I don't really want to lose cores, I think eight is a good sweet spot, but I feel both the 5700X and 5800X3D are overpriced for what they are, whereas there's some good deals to be had on the 5600X.

I think i'm going to wait this one out a little, surely the price of the two eight cores has to drop at some stage, right? I mean i'm hoping thatAMD are going to want to start clearing stock for the arrival of their AM5 processors.

I'd stick with the 3700X, I found very little improvement going from a 3600 to 5800X with a 3080 at 1440p 5-10% or so yet going from a 1070ti + ryzen 3600 to 3080 yielded over a 100% uplift.

My girlfriend and I were both upgrading from a first generation ryzen 1600 to a fourth generation 5700x so as Andy MK3 and Armageus pointed out, it's quite an upgrade. As arc@css said you'd probably need to aim higher ( 5800x3d 5950x etc) to see a worthwhile difference.

Your 3700x is still a very capable CPU. What gpu are you running?

I wouldn't jump from a 3700X to a 5600X. Personally, I'd aim higher than that.

Yeah I really don’t want to lose cores. I went from a 5820k to a 1700X, then a 2700X and now a 3700X. I just tended to wait until each generation had been replaced and then pick up the previous flagship for peanuts second hand. My last new CPU was the Intel one.

I can’t upgrade my GPU sadly. I’m a big SFF nerd and my case only goes upto the length of an ITX motherboard, so ~185mm. Maybe the X3D would be more of a decent upgrade? I’m pretty much decided on skipping first gen AM5 at this point anyway, let others iron out the problems.

6600XT. So not really the quickest. I just think i’d like to move to some form of Ryzen 5000 series so that when I skip the first load of AM5 processors my system is still capable for a couple of years.

Depends what games you play. If you play games where the 5800X3D performs really well then there might be enough value there but otherwise 5600/5600X is a great product for a lot less money.

I doubt you'll see much uplift on any of those CPUs with a 6600XT certainly not enough to warrant the cost.
