Choices for a second 'fun' car...

Option 1: Honda Prelude

Option 2: Porsche 944 (preferably white)

Option 3: Something else you can think of?
£4K budget max for something with a bit of poke that would do an absolute max of 7k miles a year.
Insurance for me on the 2 above comes in about £1k for both which is about the limit of what I'd pay. A 200SX was also considered, but quotes for that are over £600 more.

Looks like the 'Lude is nudging ahead then :)

TBH the running costs of the 944 were a concern. I don't mind the odd couple of hundred quid on servicing etc, but from what I've been reading on owners forums it sounds like you'll end up on first name terms with the garage owner and his kids you're putting through uni.

LizardKing - I much prefer the styling of the 5th Gen Prelude over the 4th - whats the advantage of a 4th gen? Also, what are your running costs like?

Other than a few performance differences there ain't many advantages with the 4th gen. Especially if you prefer the 5th gen looks.
I've only had it a week so i've yet to experience any running costs yet :) but its inline to get 250miles from £40 and a full service from Honda is around the £180 mark.

I was taken out in a 944 by the guy who I bought the Baja off. To be honest, I was hugely unimpressed with the acceleration and handling, and inside, it was very dated an unimpressive.

Out of the two it would definately be the Honda. However if I was after that kind of car again, I would recommend a Fiat Coupe 20v Turbo. There aren't many cars that will give you a kick in the back like the Coupe, coupled with comfort, style and relative practicality, for that kind fo money.
