I'll give you a clue. Everyone likes them. The winner will get one.

Jelly, chocolate, orange peel, flour, sugar and egg...In a cup

Mmmmmmmm

What had jelly and chocolate.....the jelly is really throwing me off. Too small to be a trifle and you can’t take it out of that.

:D

Yeah it's not trifle. Currently got jelly setting in fridge for an hour, another 15 minutes to go.
Hmm, recipe called for zest, I hope I don't get too.much of a mouthful of it.

Jaffa Cakes.

Winner. \o/

Nope I've never made them before. :)
I just decided today to see if there's a recipe on YouTube and there's one or two. Mine is a Mary Berry one but I added a teaspoon of marmalade as well which another recipe suggested.

Hmm, odd. The batter is meant to make 12 but I've run out after filling 7 holes in my bun tin and I've only filled each 3/4 full which is what the recipe says. I'll have to make a little more.

Cheers guys. They taste really good! :D

The sponge is delicious and soft, and the jelly almost melts in your mouth.

I'll have to knock a couple of points off though for the taste of the cheap chocolate I used because I should have used better quality like Bourneville, and it should be egg shell thin over the jelly and mine has set quite thick as you can see probably in the last photo. So each cake is a bit weightier in the hand compared to shop bought ones, but overall I'm really pleased with them.:)

They're on their way rob!

Great job, Merlin, how do they taste? Is the base authentic?

I believe the base is probably authentic as it's just caster sugar, egg and flour, and having watched a McVities 'how do they make Jaffa Cakes' video of their factory process, those are the only ingredients they mentioned.

Here's the recipe, plus a video that follows it which will help you more. :) For the jelly, buy the Hartleys stuff, it's 50p a pack.
