Well.. I know a lot of people think this, but Hendrix firmly sticks out in my mind. I just think if he hadn't been there then pretty much none of the stuff we listen to today would be in existance. Others such as Cream and Zeppelin stick out. But I think Hendrix was just the creater of so many different styles of playing and different styles of music.

Who do you think influenced music?

Popular music, what is considered the Rock era from 1955 onwards then the biggest two are Elvis and the Beatles. They influenced popular music more than anybody else. That doesn't mean they were the best though or they created music as we know it. They gave a face, voice, look and sound to a whole new generation of record buyers that had never been seen before or since.

Thread closed, tell everyone who disagrees that their objections are not recognised.

Sorry, but you're wrong. He was an extremely talented musician but we never really had a wave of hendrix copycats in his wake. Clapton and Page had more of an influence (especially Page) as people have tried to emulate their sounds in thousands of bands and you still hear stuff coming out to this day that bears their influence. This isn't about who's the better musician (that's an altogether different argument, although with similar results), it's about who people took their cues from.

Michael Jackson for obvious reasons that do not need explaining. :) (Not the molestation crap so don't get cheeky! ;) )

You will have to explain those reasons to me because I honestly can't think of a single one.

Music, not modern music.

In which case you have to go back through history, but the most notable are people such as Bach, Mozrt, Handel, Tchaikovski (Sp?) and anyone involved the the birth of new musical eras.

People like Hendrix may have influenced MODERN musicians, but music in general was developed long before he was born.

I can't either. I still rate him as the single greatest performer I've ever laid eyes on, but I wouldn't say he's influenced music all that much. You could say he influenced music videos a whole lot.

I agree about the videos, I can't remember another aritist whose videos created as much, of not more, of a buzz as their music did.
