The Americans don't know much about F1 though, doubt they know who he is unless they are dedicatd followers. More into their Indycars and NASCAR

yer, in the same way we no nothing about either of them. The leading guy in indy is a brit that the brother in law of a workmate. But no-one (inc me till recently) has ever heard of him... hes desprate to brake into f1 and get recognised in the uk

I would argue most have heard of Michael Schumacher...Ferrari is a world wide brand, and his face is pushed to the front as a symbol of the best driver with the best car.

Some of the IRL, Nascar (etc) drivers and cars are private firms...I would expect people to know of someone like Massa, Coulthard, Raikonnen, Fisi a lot less. Schumacher is like Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan, David Beckham etc, a world wide brand.

Just a question? Have anyone here ever heard of wayne greetzky(sp?)
If u havnt, it could be the same for micheal but not known in the USA

I have and assume most people would have :s but that's a bad example as he's an ice hockey player, which is not really a worldwide sport, where as formula 1 is the pinnacle of motor racing worldwide.

Tom.

Yes, but that is a bad example I feel.

I didnt know gretzky is so well known in the UK

Down here in Oz hardly any one has heard of him and i mean almost no one.
It would have been a better example if you all hadnt heard of him before:(

as i said the US isn't really interested in F1, thats why they don't really know Shumie, they are much more into indy and nascar - have any of you heard of Dan Wheldon?
