Who else used Facebook and didn't see the point of it?

I find that email is more central to me. That's how it's been since 1999 for me, and will continue to be. And no, I'm not behind the times, as I do have push email on my phone :-) Who's with me there?

You've now become that grandparent who is unable to figure out the video recorder because its to fan-dangled, your getting old :p

Personally I think Facebook is invaluable.

There are so many people I met and worked with when I was living in Canada for a couple of years, most of which I would have totally lost touch with, aside from the odd e-mail every year. With Facebook, despite being the other side of the world, I can still be in contact with such people and see what everyone has been up to.

It's kind of hard to remember what it was like before Facebook now.

I've got to admit I'm doing less and less posting of status updates, perhaps also because I'm using Twitter these days.

As for the OP, I think an employer trying to add you as a friend on Facebook before even giving you a job is a bit weird, it's certainly not proper practice and I'd blame the person hiring you for that one.

Also, I don't know how long ago it was that you canceled your account, but Facebook have been moving away from where they were in terms of having tons of apps and clutter that annoy you. In order to give everyone a clean, standardized main page, more or less like what they started out with. Infact, any app boxes on your main page will soon be removed.

You can also now hide, permanently, any app news story that appears in your news feed, such as Farmville, so you never have to see it again.

FB is great, use it for it's intended purposes and block all the stupid app updates and kick people who updates they status every 5 minutes.

Great for keeping in touch, using the instant messages, photos and organising events.
Nearly all events are sorted out on FB with a few texts. Just a good central place to hold all the info and website links.

I don't get how people can't see a point in it. I can use it for keeping in contact with people who are far away.

Email, VoIP, IM? :p

As for people liking to share photos on Facebook - I was never too keen on that because the FB software resizes the images so that they're quite small. At least with something like Flickr, you can upload the original camera resolution, which is good for prints, desktop wallpaper and for those like me who prefer the original resolution.

Haha, probably! Having said that, I was in tech support for 7 years, doing remote desktop support and PC repairs. So I know more than the average mortal. I probably know less than the average OcUK'er though :-)

Nearly everyone I know is on Facebook. It's allright, I only use it to view what friends are getting upto. :\
Yep same here. I don't post nothing on my status though as no one needs to known what I've done that day lol

Apart from adding my friends on it mine has been pretty dormant since getting it, however, now that I'm studying abroad I find myself using it a lot more, mainly to keep in touch with people.

Email is not a group thing. iM requires peole to sign up and to the same one. Photos donor need to be quality, it is for a quick view, not for downloading and photo printing.

No I am not, but it amazes me that it's 'pretty much needed' to socialise at a univeristy!!

Well obviously you can socialise without it, but certain things are organised solely through FB, ie. sports club things, special events at certain clubs (and guestlists), birthdays etc.

facebook is being ruined by all these stupid groups. They need to be banned. Especially when some of your friends join about billion groups a day.

This is how I got into facebook. I wasn't an early convert, I managed to avoid signing up for the first year before I relented.

It makes you wonder how people managed to organise a birthday party, sports club etc before facebook came about.

We really are so reliant on things like this now. It's kind of sad.
