Who gets through their day caffeine free?

I have a can of coke with my breakfast and one can with my lunch and that is it now. I deliberately don't drink caffeinated drinks after 2pm or 3pm as it interrupts sleep. People who claim it doesn't (I didn't think it use to either!) are just kidding themselves. I find falling asleep far easier now and in fact I find I need less sleep because of it. The cans of coke are now diet or pepsi max as I want to cut down on my sugar intake. I am getting some mild headaches (easily controlled with Paracetamol or Ibu) I can't figure out if it is the sweetners or my body adjusting to far lower sugar levels. I will give it a couple more weeks.

I use to chow down on a couple of the large can energy drinks a day (tropical relentless mmmmm), mostly when my children were new born and sleep was constantly interrupted but I carried on after and got addicted. However they started causing week long migraines (2 - 3 a day) which I can tell you is a very good incentive to give up!

I used to do it all the time. Nowadays I drink the odd bottle of diet coke though. It's really no biggy at all and I get very bored of the "hype" around caffeine and the usual "urgh, don't talk to me I haven't had my morning coffee yet" rubbish touted by those who think caffeine is a staple part of the human diet. Typically these are the same people that need sleeping pills..

I get through loads of coffee every day. If I have a day without I get a monster headache. I'd like to cut down a bit but two small children plus weird work hours leave me needing all the waking up I can get.

During hayfever season i tend to drink more of the caffine energy drinks (diet ones as im diabetic) as they seem to help counter-act the allergies. Not sure how but they seem to help

During the last 6 months of uni i was on about 12 cups of coffee a day, with 2 of those being starbucks filter

I could do it easily.

I never got into the habit of drinking tea or coffee and most 'energy' drinks taste disgusting and just pump your body full of chemicals that make you feel energetic without actually giving you energy (Sugar Free Red Bull is one of the most ridiculous concepts ever, an 'energy' drink where they've removed the one source of energy).

Must admit I have started drinking Pepsi max around the house but that's only becuase the wife gets it in and it's easier than making squash which is whatI'd usually drink.

Breakfast?!!? HORRIBLE! :p

Also you do know Paracetamol and Ibu contain caffeine and sugar anyway to get you over those sort of slumps...

Gave up all caffeine 8 weeks ago and I have to say the way I feel now is amazing. I sleep properly and as a result are a hell of a lot more focused first thing in the morning. People have also commented that I'm a hell of a lot more easy going.

My conclusion (and I'm a scientist so it's fact :p) caffeine is filth and does more than perk you up

I'm very 'slow' in the morning till I've had my first coffee but once I've had that I can go the rest of the day without caffeine.

I still have a diet coke at lunch or something similar but thats because I like it rather than the need for caffeine.

6 weeks... I wouldn't have expected the come-down to last quite that long, but then your intake was pretty high!

For me, it depends on what I've done the night before... if I've been out drinking / had a joint or two... then I usually need coffee to give me a boost in the mornings, along with a shower - those combined usually wake me up.

If I've been good the night before, I don't need more than the shower to make me alert.

Yeah yeah, that's what an addict would say.:p

I don't drink tea or coffee, mainly because I don't like the taste of it. However I do like the smell (very weird I know).

Also I've never had an energy drink before apart from Lucozade sport and Powerade which I've drank a few times.

So I tend to be slow in the morning but once I get up and going I can keep working for ages and won't have any headaches or feel tired easily.

Not all of them contain caffeine and the ones that do are either due to the fact it increases the effectiveness of the painkillers, if they're mixed with something that may cause drowsiness or in cold/flu remedies where people might want the extra boost.
They contain forms of sugar as it's a cheap binder and makes the tablets a bit more palatable.
Either way it's not enough of either to give any major change in energy levels.
