Who have had general anaesthetic (not medical related)

Twice here. Was a long time ago, but then it was a small butterfly looking needle in the top of the hand, count to 3 then bam.

Then you instantly wake up feeling somewhat disoriented and head spinning for a while but it soon passes.

Toast after tonsils out..... yes please doc :) First child to ask for this, most ask for jelly :)

Richie.

the worst part imo is them putting the needle in your hand, (it didnt hurt because they numb it with cream) because you can feel the big needle under your skin which creeped me out a bit, also you can feel the anaethestic being pumped in which my god is a weird feeling, I was lied to because I asked is this the anaethestic going in and I was told it wasnt but next thing I remember is waking up with *cough* a shaved nether regions and a semi :(, which means I probably got a boner during surgery whilst they were working down there. Oops!

was a hernea (sp) op

I went under the back end of last year, and weirdly i was looking forward to it, lovely sensation for the few seconds before zzzzzz :p

Had one when I was 11 to have my tonsils removed. Was quite easy really... Gave me some sort of local anaesthetic (I think...) on the back of my hand a few hours beforehand. In the operating room they injected the general anaesthetic into my hand and you feel it moving up your body. Very bizarre feeling for the few seconds you have it before going totally under. Few hours later you wake up (despite it feeling like a split second).

I had it for the first time towards the end of last year.

I was really excited! I didn't feel nervous until I was on the trolley and they were wheeling me down to the Operating Theatre.

When they put the drip thing in your arm it's strange; you go all cold, then they give you the mask (oxygen isn't it?) I was thinking "Uh, I feel completely fine, I hope this works =/" and literally before I knew it I was coming round in the recovery area. :D

Such a cool experience! Mine wasn't a serious operation though, I imagine I'd be more stressed if it was a bit more serious.

Edit: Should add I didn't have the 'hangover' feeling at all, I felt perfectly awake and wanted to be up and about, but they suggested I rest for a bit.

3 times, twice for eye operations and once for major dental work.

Nothing to worry about at all, it's quite funny because it's not like being asleep as there is no sense of a passing of time. It's literally like someone switching a light off and back on and suddenly your in the future!

The actual anesthetic part was plain sailing I guess, no problems. I remember the doc telling me to count ten and you think yeah right, this wont work on me. I got to 3 :D

Coming round after the transplant was not a good day out, but that's a serious op. But after the brain surgery I was awake and feeling ok (all things considered) after a couple of hours, from first coming round.

I had my wisdom teeth out and I was out within a second. I had no issues at all and the needle in the hand is the worst part.

Had one a couple of years ago for a pilonidal sinus (don't google image it!!) and ended up with an epidural as well.

On my side in the area immediately before the theatre, quick dose of the primary, 1, 2, 3... and wake up very drowsy, confirm name and date of birth to the nurse in the recovery area and then pass out again.

Wake up several hours later on the ward. Still numb from the epidural, after an hour feeling began to come back to my legs and toes. Unfortunately still not feeling anything where I should, several hours pass by, still no feeling, eventually after 18 hours the man was working again.

That was by far and away the worst part - the daily packings and dressing were far more of a pain than the initial surgery.

I had a late circumcision too, for medical reasons.

Its not a huge thing really mate. (well, thats what the nurse said afterwards, fnar!) Long T-shirt thing is what i did too, and yes, you will not want pants for a bit :p

Anesthetic is a funny one for me, i react really badly when i wake up, apparently. I get uber stroppy and grumpy, i also talk absolute rubbish for an hour or so afterwards. I am an unusual in that case. I dont remember any of the moody bits or the speaking in tonges though! its just "count to 10 please" - ZONK - then wake up in recovery however long it is later :)

I can only speak for myself, but I couldn't stand to wear anything for 48hours after the op. I just stayed in, butt naked. After that it was tight fitting briefs, which felt strange at first because I'd always been a boxers man myself. But apparantly it's better to wear more tight fitting undies for a while after the op.

Had a mastoidectomy last week; anaesthetic itself is ok it's just a wierd feeling if they give you the stuff to knock you out through your arm rather than gas. Worst thing is waking up with a dead bottom lip that lasts for afew hours after they clamp that thing to stop you choking on your tongue on it.

My lecturer went in for an ingrowing toe nail, had that "paralysed" sensation where she could feel all the Op.

Took about 4 months off to recover, and I think she tried to claim money off them.
