Who here owns a Fiesta ST?

I'll keep you updated as to how I get on. I'm tempted to order some stiffer front springs too.

New exhaust hanger is doing a much better job than the one it replaced, keeping the exhaust nice and tight to the valance.

Touch wood absolutely fine, nothing has gone wrong apart from stuff through fault of my own like rear ABS sensors while fitting spacers, etc.

I tended to get around 40mpg on a motorway run but that was with a relatively standard car.

I find that with the Mountune 185 kit I get slightly less than that, 36-38 now.

How reliable have you guys found your st's? Realistic economy figures on a run?

Thanks :)

I had an ST for nearly 3.5 years, went from a totally standard car with just under 10k on the clock with FFSH, to a heavily modded Mountune MR200 car with 29k on the clock when I sold it.

Things that broke on my car:

Reverse light switch - just stopped working, cheap fix.
Rear brake caliper - seized, was dragging, replaced.
Clutch master cylinder - leaked, replaced.
Clutch slave cylinder - possibly damaged during installation by Jamsport, leaked, destroyed clutch, replaced.
Rear wheel bearing - died on its own accord.
Front ABS sensor - again died all by itself.

It was very well looked after but every so often I would give it death on the road :D

As for mpg, around town it got 24-27, on a run I would get 31 at a push but then I tended to cruise at speeds higher than those that would give you best economy. I genuinely never got anywhere near 40mpg, god knows how you and Overlag drive James to get such good economy on a run!

I get shocking around town MPG though, never see higher than 25.

I went for a drive one day and did about 30 miles on sweeping, national speed limit roads. Pushed the car and my MPG still went up and averaged low 30s.

I've had my st 5 years in march. It was standard with 8k on it. It's now heavily tuned with mr200 different shocks etc and used aggressively all the time and just past 80k.

Things to go wrong:
Passenger seat handle broke, simple cheep fix.
Rear calipers stick when the pads are low.
Heater controls make strange clicking noises and doesn't redirect flow to set positions.
Heated windscreen doesn't work (early 07 cars suffered this).
B pillar plastic trim fell off at 70mph lol.

Things that have gone wrong due to track abuse (mainly 2012).
Standard dampers failed at like 68k, lowering springs my not have helped?
Front drives side drive shalf broke.
Both gear box axle seals leaked at least once. Lost count. (Too much gearbox work).
Gearbox failed (again... My fault for touching it).

My record for Mr200 is 380miles from a tank on the way to Scotland which is like 38mpg. Around towns you going to struggle getting into the 30s, I currently get 24mpg. With a standard car I once got 44mpg avg over 100ish miles, dunno how.

Only problem I have had was one of my front springs snapping which I believe is pretty common.

MPG on a motorway run for me is usually about 30-32, the car really needs a sixth gear!

Nice pimping on Mountunes Facebook tonight Adam! Haha!

lol yup, they stuck the camera to the roof of my car which led to me driving like a bit of a plonker, but my clean lap was the fastest of the practice by 3 seconds i believe. To top it off i was ILL and basically sat in the cafe for most of the practice :o

Didnt know they did a MR220 I thought it was the MR200? Which is a inlet manifold added to the 185 kit and another map to go with it?

They did an MR220 prototype but didn't release it because apparently it was dog rough, Mountune cars generally have to appeal to the common-man and the 220 wasn't really suitable from all accounts.

MR200 is the inlet manifold and a remap, in addition to the existing bits from the 185 kit.

MR220 is (I think) a forged bottom end with an even higher rev limit, race spec cams, ported and polished head, and a larger bore exhaust, in addition to the MR200 kit, with a custom remap. Theres only one car in this spec in existence, owned and driven by Trevor who works for Mountune, its never been 'for sale' or advertised as a kit you can go and buy, I think it was just something they put together for fun and to see how far you could take the engine on stock management :)

To go beyond this sort of power you would need to bin off the Mountune inlet and go for individual throttle bodies, which makes it even more extreme, and for the Fiesta ST would also need you to replace the standard engine management - far from a simple job given the stock ECU controls the clocks, alarm, immobiliser and climate control functions etc, not to mention converting to a cable throttle rather than DBW.... £££££

I havent seen the MR220 car, but Overlag on here has...he has said it idles like a bag of spanners and sounds like a race car, but the idle is so lumpy its not much use from a drivability view point, certainly a bit hardcore as a road car.

If you posted on Mountune's facebook you might get more details, but its not something they've talked about much....
